What would be my best option? Don't let money come into it though.

#1. Sram X7 shifter X9 short cage mech (did the "sticking" issues get sorted with these?). 10 speed, xt cassette+chain.

#2. SLX 9 Speed shifter and medium cage mech (is the spring actually strong in the mech). XT cassette, KMC chain.

#3. XT M780 GS rear mech (is the spring as strong as SLX), XT M770 Shifter or M660 Shifter (same internals, right?). 10 speed XT cassette +chain.

Will be run with single ring, over rough stuff, so good spring tension would be great. Don't really care how the shifter feels, just want the chain to go into gear as quick and with as little fuss as possible.

Would also like a rear mech that doesn't develop main pivot slop in a day.

Isn't saint supposed to have higher spring tension?

Got a 9spd SLX and it seems tighter than my previous mechs...

SRAM? Nah... leave well alone.

I just orders on of those XTR Shadow Plus mechs, not fitted it yet but it will certainly give you all the tension you need, they aren't cheap though!

Inclined to agree with not going SRAM, not impressed with the 10 speed X9 on the other halfs bike, feels very flimsy.

10-speed Shimano really seems to be the way to go, they took some lessons from SRAM but also raised their own game. I love 9-speed SRAM but the 10-stuff really didn't impress

Shadowplus is supposed to come to XT and I think SLX next revision so that's me sticking to 9-speed til that happens ๐Ÿ˜‰
