OK, sorry if this antagonises anyone, but in my defence I think it's my first "what tyres" post in several years using this forum.

Anyway, probably heading up north for a couple of days later this week and I know there's been a spot of rain lately.

Choice is Mud Xs or Minions. Would prefer the latter if I could get away with it, as they are set up tubeless.

Cheers!

Minions should be fine in the Peaks, and tubeless is a good idea, lots of big pointy rocks. Grippy rocks too. No idea about Rivington, but minions will be fine in the Peak District.

It's a bit muddy round rivvy at the moment, just come back, but you could ride it on minions if you keep to the stoner tracks, which would still give out a good ride

I know Rivvy quite well easygirl (or at least i thought I did) where is mini glentreaa?

and TBH around Rivvy most is quite stoney paths, the moorland suits any mud tyre, probably minions will be a better bet, unless MOST of your riding is in mud.

Thanks folks, probably stick with minions then.

I only know the tracks Binners showed me when I came up before, I will probably only remember how to get up and over the hill to the belmont descent and then back round for the ice cream run.

I have seen about Healy Nab on here and might check that out if it holds up OK in winter?

Anyone fancy a ride Thursday (rivi) or Friday (peaks)?

I ride High Rollers and Advantages around Riv regardless of the weather and its fine. There is the odd boggy patch but as vortex says, its fairly stony in general so any knobbly would do.

So I'd imagine Minions would be fine too.

mini Glentreaa (Glentress?) at Rivi. That sounds interesting.
Rivi's my local but I don't think I've ever heard any of it described in those terms.

Healey Nab fits in nicely into a lap of the upper res. Anticlockwise, up the East side of the res (cheeky)

I've been out on the last two days around Rivington on most of the lower down trails (including Healey Nabb), and they are holding up ok under all the rain - most of the trails are rocky based. Heading down through the Japanese Gardens was like riding down a river though. I wouldn't worry too much about sticking a mud tyre on, there's enough rocky and rooty stuff.

Here's what I've been riding around Rivington the last few times and these have been fine.

Hope that helps you understand how important tyre choice is.

It'll need to dry out a bit in Bolton before it could be described as 'muddy'. ๐Ÿ™‚

Minions will be fine, btw. Just put mine on yesterday.

Been out today and its not too bad round rivvy. Nobby Niks and Maxxis Advantage. Its a bit slippy in places but not sure its ever boggy enough for long enough to warrent changing to mud tyres. The missus did enjoy some descents with a bald front tyre though ..... ๐Ÿ˜€
