Hi all,
I was all set to go with SIDS 100mm for my steel-framed 29er to give it some more life on the local trails and steep descents.
However, I'm not sure now, are SIDs worth the extra cost than say a pair of Rebas? I'm not so fussed about saving weight and would take strength/reliability/durability over it for what I need it for.
My requirements are bikepacking/local trail riding. My budget is around 300-600 -- open to suggestions.
Cheers,
FM
Fox 34 Stepcast
Depends on your particular sensitivities, although I never liked the Motion Control damper in my Rebas. Always found it harsh and hard to find the sweet spot, which is awkward when you want to switch between a loaded and unloaded bike.
I'd be surprised if you could find 34 Stepcast in your budget, although there does seem to be the occasional bargain floating around. Sids seem a bit more affordable - saw some Sid Ultimate for about 550 including duty on one of the German sites.
Fox 32 Stepcast, with 100mm travel? I ran some from 2018-23 on a lightweight HT and then changed over to 34 SCs (albeit with 120mm travel). The reviews tend to say how flexy the 32s are but I thought they were fine - the 34s are no great leap forwards in my view.
I can afford the SIDs, but the Foxes are pushing it a little.
Without having looked closely, it seems there are 32 SC models available (basic through to posh) in the £3-600 price range mentioned earlier.
Are they significantly better than the SIDs?
Sids over the Fox 32 SC - I've had both & the Sids are stiffer.
mrelobowski,
Thanks! Do you think they're worth the extra cash over the Rebas?
Couldn't say TBH - back in the day top end Rebas were a cut price but not too much drop in performance Sids..
Have a big of a dig around?
Point of order: there’s SIDs with 35mm chassis and there’s SID SL’s with 32mm chassis.
I can recommend the 35mm SID select+ in 120mm form I’ve got, I think it’s a great fork. But can’t compare with any others mentioned.
I've had all 3 forks: SID 35 & 32 & Fox SC 32.
In order of stiffness: SID 35, SID 32, Fox SC 32.
As already said above the SID 35 is a very good trail/xc fork.
