...on your trail bike?
Anyone gone smaller and preferred it or is bigger always better?
160 / 160 with mono minis works for me. Smaller is better until you overheat them
203 all round on everything for me apart from my jump bike as I had smaller ones lying around. I've only ever been happier with bigger ones.
203 front/180 rear. But then I am all of the gnaar radness.
203 / 180 on the five. Bent the rear and had to order a new 1 today ๐ฅ
could do a flat out 30 mph stoppie on a 185mm front disc on an a/m hardtail, put a 203 on it and whilst power increased, control and modulation suffered. back on a 185...you gotta find the right size for your speed/weight/style...
160's front and rear xt's.find them perfect for my riding (anthem x2 bike ๐
thats what i find beanie.
160/ 160 for me . Plenty for what I ride.
205/180 but I'm a fairly big bloke so do require the extra power unfortunately. Plenty of modulation though so don't tend to lock wheels up too often.
180/180mm for me on both bikes
180fr 160rr works best for me. I had 160/160 on one bike and it always felt a bit weak on the front brake compared to the others.
180/160 for me, but i'd probably be fine with 160/160.
160/160 Hope and Shimano on my XC orientated bikes. Plenty of stopping power for me @ 13 stone.
203F, 160R, for ultimate 1 finger stopping power up front.
i run 203/180 on my trail bike, but the new xtr are so powerfull i'm thinking of getting a smaller front rotor
180/160 for me, works fine.
160s on my do it all dandyhorse.
160 all round
203 front and back
180/180 Formula
180/160 XT
180fr 160r with Hope mono minis. Never felt under-braked, although like sambob I would prob be fine with 160 front and back.
I don't use brakes, as this is the new niche to go with my 29er SS. ๐
Actually 160/160 ๐ณ
I must be lacking on brakes
165f & 145r
very happy with the 145 rear but I am thinking of going up to 185 at the front
160/160
26'' (aka magura hs33) ๐
otherwise, 180/160 for XC and 203/180 for the mad bike
I have 180/160 on my two On-One's and 160/160 on my ti race bike. I am thinking of putting 180 on the front of that one too as I really notice the difference in stopping power.
180/160 on 2 bikes (5 and Rock Lobster 853, with mono mini's and servo xt's respectively). I tried a 180 on the back of the RL but it felt wrong and too powerful. 160's on new slx's on the Bad Boy and it is the quickest stopper of the 3, presumably due the rigid fork and stiff setup.....in fact the night I fitted them I went for a wee test ride on the street about 11pm and grabbed a big handful of the front brake and went straight over the bars onto my lawn ๐ณ luckily no one saw me !!
180 f and 140 r both Hope floating with M4 calipers. Work from alpine to local trail centre....
203/180 on my 29er
183/160 on my 26"
180/160 Hayes Stroker Gram/Carbon - 'trail' bike
180/XTR 'v' brake - singlespeed
203 / 180 on my rigid hardtail. Tried 160 / 160 and it just felt underbraked.
203 / 180 on the Enduro Pro too.
Im not particularly slow, but i am 16.5 stone.
Had 160 Avid Elixir's at each end. 160 was fine but upgraded to 185 up front and its better
I am with Clubber here:
203 /185 on 29ner
185/160 on 26"
smaller ones on a 29ner looks wrong !? ๐ฏ I need the extra disc to stop that extra rotating mass!!? (I am sure a physicist could prove me wrong here) . More thats what we have and they all feel about right.
203/180 i'm about 17stone though, so the extra power is needed.
180/180 Hope M4 on FS and HT. Fine in UK and Alps. 12stone. Never had a problem
Hemlock has 203/160, Mmmbop has 180/160, rigid bike I think has 2 160s but I'm not sure about that.
I know the 203/160 is weird but I've never felt any need for a bigger rear rotor, whereas I quite like the feel of the 203 up front.
185/165 but will be switching to 160/160 next week. don't really use my front brake much ๐
160/160 on xc bike if you need more just MTFU and pull the brake harder
203/183 on my trail bike and the same on my HT so I can interchange wheels.
165/145 here and I'm 15st. I get far more excitement on an average ride as a result.
180front / 160rear = plenty.
a good squeeze with 1 finger is more than enough to cause skidding front or rear - i can't see the need for more.
i'll admit that a 160front would probably be fine, but i've got some 180mm discs to use up.
(the brakes on my commuter are ferocious, that's 160mm front and back)
Coyote Dual = 160/160
Trailstar = 180/180
203 F/R -> Patriot
205/185 F/R -> 222
