My old 2002 M2 Stumpjumper needs some rigid forks.
The original forks were some nasty Rockshox 80mm Duke XCs
Would 425mm A/C like these Exotic's
or these 420mm A/C On_One's be OK
or should I be looking at 440mm?

I like the looks of these.
oops probably to long for your frame.
oooh er they look 'sporty'.
I should have added they need to be cheap!
I have two M2 Stumpjumpers - from 1998 rather than 2002, they had Judys IIRC which were about the first thing I swapped out!
They both had coil Bombers, for a long time. Now one has Fox Vanillas stepped down to 100mm travel, that's the XC one, the other is set up for more road use and has a pair of Kona Project 2s - but that one doesn't require discs, were you after disc mounts / new forks?
Would have thought the On-Ones would be fine for length (I found the full travel on the Foxs too much to handle for the M2 geometry), that or find a pair of Pace RC31s second hand - but they come in 420mm and 440mm length.
good on you for keeping an old bike running ๐
good on you for keeping an old bike running
It will evenutally be running some old Hope orginal mini's brakes too and Hope XC wheels too.
Kcal just to be clear were you running the fox vanillas at 100mm? I use to run 100mm forks on it and it always felt weird...
spooky - do you have a doppleganger of my original M2?
It has Hope wheels f+r (Hope hubs anyway) and a Hope Mini on the front. XT rear. Cranks are original. Everything else swapped out over the years ๐
Yes, Vanillas (and the Bombers before that) are at 100mm. They did feel lighter at the front than the Judy T2s, to be sure, specially when climbing, but I was happy with that to get forks that behaved properly!
I would say that if you felt 100mm was weird then go for 420mm rigids as these are corrected for 80mm suspension forks (440's for 100mm forks).
Note that the On Ones will weigh about as much as the rest of your bike and have little compliance.
Saying that mine are still going strong after 6/7 years.
