Purchased a new Rockshox Reba fork last March (2013 model, solo air) which never felt right from day one, couldn't sag it properly even when running 50-60 psi as it was really hard in the initial stroke. I rode it for a couple of hundred miles thinking it might just need bedding in but I had no joy so I sent it back to Merlin under warranty in November.
When I got it back in December SRAM had replaced the lowers 'due to play in bushes' (quote from the SRAM service sheet) and the fork felt lovely and plush, completely different to how it was initially. I've put probably 200 miles on it since then but when I went to ride today the fork was rock hard in the initial stroke again. I reduced the pressure from 80psi to 50 psi and still impossible to sag. Fork Juice makes no difference so I'm pretty sure this isn't a stiction issue.
Any STWers have any idea what is going on here?
Tried a lowers service? Check the stanchions for wear when you've got it disassembled too.
Is the lockout/compression threshold jamming on?
Is there too much oil in the damper?
transfer port to the negative chamber could be blocked with grease, but try this
, same thing happens to my revs
If you let all the air out do they move freely? If not then it could be a lockout/compression issue.
@ chrisdw / suburbanreuben - will strip the forks today and see if there's anything like that going on.
@ bigjim - it might be this, I'll check the video. Thanks.
@ mjsmke - they move freely through the travel when I let all the air out so probably not a lockout issue.
That fork burp trick seems to have done the trick. ๐
I wonder if that will help mine...
Thanks
For the burp that is
good stuff. I think air leaks through from the -ve chamber into the lower leg, until the pressure is equal between all three chambers, causing all kinds of nonsense to happen.
