I wouldn’t be put off hunt rims by that sample of one.
count me in on this sample...
dinged the shizzle out of my hunt trail wides, 29ers...
Went for the obvious next step up... Reserves with i9 hubs...ha!
Also, JUST ordered a set of DT swiss 1900s in boost, 30mm, 27.5 guise for £220...(for the OH's e bike) will see IF they are actually in stock..
DrP
There seems to be huge stocks of 27.5" stuff around, and a lot of it discounted quite heavily.
Probably a result of the size falling out of favour quite rapidly and shortages of new 29" bits coming through. Some good deals to be had on them though if you have a need!
Further to my slight rant about fitwheels above, the wheels are now due for delivery today. Seems they had not been getting my emails and also had problems with shipping to the UK after the 1st July. Understandable ish, in particular the shipping as Brexit gave 6 months grace on a lot of import procedures.
We'll see what comes and if I get a further invoice.
@DrP. Where did you find the e1900 Boost 27.5s for that price, and have they arrived yet?
I bought an e1900 29er wheelset for a similar price a few weeks ago after trashing the rear wheel on my full suspension bike, but now also need a 27.5 set as I have foolishly now ruined my rear on my hardtail. I'm struggling to find them in stock from somewhere reputable for much less than RRP.
Edit- I've just found them on JE James, but they only have SRAM XD Driver in stock, and I need Shimano.
Edit2.- the JEJames ones are only 142mm hub and not boost
@peekay
They arrived.. but, by they, i mean a set of e1900 Non-boost..
Which was completely my error, as I failed to properly read the blurb!!
FFS.... will send them back this weekend!!

Its not just one though, another one has appeared on the cracked rim thread (although this has had a ding and then the crack has radiated out) and the poster has found another crack whilst boxing the wheel up to be returned
There is mention of it happening on their road bike rims too if you Google cracked hunt rim
Personally id stay away from them for the time being, their warranty may be good but they have no stock for replacements and i wouldn't fancy that letting go on me on a fast descent especially on a road bike where you are mixing with other traffic
Hopefully Hunt are looking into the issue and will change the rim to fix the issues
@DrP ah. That must be annoying.
Please let me know if you find anything for a good price and I'll do the same.
For anyone looking for a 29er set of e1900 wheels, Rush Cycles still have them available for £299 delivered.
damn damn bugger blast.
My wheels have turned up with the wrong rims. 🤦♂️😢
Will post my own thread now as have hijacked this one enough.
well.. I just managed to 'win' some nice BOOST (!) WTB i30 rims (32h) on Vitus hubs (off a Vitus sentier..) for £83 posted!
Nice!
That fits the bill of being a bit wider and stronger thatn the stock rims on teh Trek EB hardtail my lad hoons about on!

Are these V1 or V2 hunt wheels cracking etc?
I have a set of V1 trail wide rims. They're ok, but are inferior to a Stans flow Mk3 with which I would bracket them with for similar use. Rim bead wall is very thin and a bit tall so aren't very resistant to the odd thump with low tyre pressures or high energy hits. They tubeless ok but the bead lock robustness isn't as good as stans under duress out on the trail.
They are a bit lighter though.
Not right for me so I took them off and put Flows on, which in hindsight I should have done to start with.
Good stuff. They are a nice solid rim and the Bitex hubs get very good reviews, especially for the price.
Mine are still a bit rubbish. Sent them with XM481 rims and agreed to a free EX511 and a couple of valves as compensation - but not seen or heard anything else on them !
I had a personal strop and ended up buying some 'bargain' Reynolds carbon 27.5" plus things from Wiggle for my hardtail after determining that 29" wheels were too hard on my back on it.

You mean perfectly usable with a backup rim incase it doesn’t work out?

You’ll feel far more with small wheels (assuming similar sized tyres) as you’ve less rollover
the crack has radiated out
Been doing a bit of research on rims cracking at the spoke holes and the best theory I have is that if the nipples aren't perfectly spherical they aren't touching the rim 360 degrees. When tensioned up and hitting square edges, if there's even a tiny bit of daylight between nipple and rim, this is when the rim will fail. My rear OE Whyte wheel did this and it's led me to learning how to build wheels and I've just finished my first set with Sapim Polyax brass nipples, hoping I'll avoid this problem. Fingers crossed...

They are plus tyres on the 27.5" wheels, so 2.8" and a lot more forgiving than 29 x 2.3".
Had the bike on plus tyre since I got it and this is the second time I've tried wagon wheels on it.
30 years ago it would be great but unfortunately I have to think of my back a lot more nowadays. Square edge hits and drops are much comfier with the plus wheels - even after playing with pressures on both for ages.
Just need a new front tyre ready for the front wheel arriving in September.
What would you put on the front to go with the High Roller II ?
I want an all rounder that I can take to dry rocky trails and mud. I’m not the type to change tyres based on conditions and don’t need anything that rolls super fast at the detriment of grip.
Currently got a WTB Vigilante.
I have DHF 3C XO 2.5WT on the front of my Ripmo and 2.5WT Agressor XO on the back (standard factory options on mk1). Sit very well on 30mm rims and never had any issues with grip slipping.
In fact we were in Wales for a week recently and I was amazed just how much grip I had on rocky wet off camber sections. The last time we went 7 years ago I was on 26" wheels with probably Continental black chilli something or other and they were sketchy as in direct comparison.
Probably a lot more to do with the bike itself but I have only been impressed with the combo on the Ripmo.
If I was being picky, it is quite challenging on tarmac and feels very sticky but tyres like that are never going to be anything else.
I'm in a similar situation. Been looking at the Mavic Crossmax XL for just under £400 but haven't quite managed to pull the trigger. Should I just go for it or would I be better off buying rims, spokes and hubs and trying a first ever build? Got a truing stand arriving tomorrow so would be a good first use of it
I've ordered some Hope fortus 35's 27.5's. They are only 40grams heavier than the dt swiss xm521's with the same hope pro 4 hubs, but the hope wheels are £150 cheaper than DT
