I've been coping quite happily with a cheap single 18650-cell flashlight strapped to my helmet for a couple of years now. Its beginning to lose a bit of performance, and I'm fedup with it catching on overhanging branches etc as its sticks up off the top of my helmet. So i want to replace it.
Ideally, I wanted a light unit to be attached to the front of my helmet, above the peak, and a small battery pack on the back. I don't want to have to have a cable from my helmet to my bag/pocket for the battery, so it limits me really to a single or double 18560 cell arrangment.
What's out there?
At the moment I've a trout-upgraded hope V2 I run on my bars. That sort of physically fist the description (although I've not checked out how it mounts to the helmet), in which case I'd need a new bar-mount light.
Just get a Solarstorm X2 tiny little unit (though the Luminator and gloworm are much smaller) with loads of output, smaller battery packs can be purchased seperately off ebay (never used seller, just a quick link) or more reliably from the likes of MTB Batteries, as the light uses an updated Magicshine (screw up) connector that will connect to older style MS ones.
I personnally struggle with why you wouldn't just use an extension lead and the normal battery.

I used to sport the foliage-in-helmet look from a torch the same as Mr. Bandito describes.
I hate having a lead flapping from my helmet light to my bag even more.
The Hope helmet mount is exactly what you are after, allows the light to be attached on the front of the helmet so it doesn't protrude much above the top of the helmet.
The Gloworm mount looks similar to the Hope so may do a similar job.
Also regarding wires flapping about. I didn't like the extra weight of the battery on my head so I put in the back pack now. But I use a few rubber bands around the vents to strap the cable down. Doesn't flap about and doesn't get caught on branches etc ..
With the torch, are you using some kind of clamp on mount that holds it high up? I just strap mine into one of the grooves on top of my helmet with small velcro straps. Depends on which direction your helmet grooves go obviously, but it is much lower profile than a mount.

A zip tie guide or rubber band as per jairaj, at the back of your helmet would stop that...
Solarstorm X2 is phenomenal, got mine in the post yesterday, very pleased
somewhere to start can't say it the cheapest you'll find it or if the supplier any good, as I found that one while just looking for one to use as an example.

cr500dom - I've probably got one you can have for the price of a stamp (or however much it costs to post).
