Just starting to build up a 14" frame for my daughter. Was going to use some old cranks that I have in the garage, but thinking now that I should maybe buy some 165mm rather than the 170/175's that I have lying around.
What's the perceived wisdom here? Do I only need shorter cranks if ground clearance is an issue, or are shorter cranks better for little legs?
Damn.....everybody must be out riding their bikes!
I've just done the same for my little brother, doesn't seem to be any problem with 170mm cranks (he's 11 this week by the way). Not very wise just personal experience.
Thanks for that. I don't want to spoil the "experience" with inappropriate kit!
My son (who is a tad shorter than me) seems much happier now with his 170s than he was with the 175s.
When I did this I was also intending to use 165mm cranks but found decent ones hard to locate so ended up using 170mm and they've been fine.
