[#1774764]

I have bought a load of bits to build a bike and my local bike shop is building it for me.
I have bought a front and rear mech with shifters from merlin.

It's their deore shadow and the www blurb says

Deore 592 rear mech shadow model
Deore 591 front mech fits 31.8 and 34.9mm, also works top and bottom pull
Deore gear levers 9 speed includes inner gear cables

I had a voice mail from the bike shop this afternoon saying that the front mech is wrong and won't fit....
He said that the bracket is too long????

Could that be the case? I'm a newbie to bikes and I thought a mech was a mech?

Can you advise what mech I need?
Thanks
colin

you need a bottom pull or dual pull, top swing 34.9 band front mech (bit of a mouthful) i have just taken my deore dual pull one off and replaced it with an XTR dual pull so am selling the deore one now, but it came off the exact same frame so i know it works

How much do you want for it or what's the model you have upgraded to as I may get that one?

Original fitment I believe is Shimano M-570 LX, 34.9mm clamp, bottom pull

what's a 2010 equivalent?

For sale here

http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fox-springs-mechs-saddle-chainring-cleats-pedals-etc

only asking a tenner posted, it works but is used and ideally could do with a clean
2010 mechs, as long as they are as i stated above doesn't matter whether you go fo deore, lx, xt, xtr etc they will all work

The one I bought is as you state though?
It's top or bottom pull, correct diameter band I don't understand how it differs?

That's a bit cheeky buying kit from Merlin for someone else to fit!!

Anyway, the dual pull mechs are fine, I use the SLX double on mine with no issues. I think the problem your bike shop mentions relates to where the clamp is in relation to the rest of the mech, as the stub seat tube is pretty short. Is the clamp above the rest of the mech when you look at it?

Nice bikes btw, what forks are you using?

Actually - it is the wrong mech. Look on Merlin's site at the difference between the Deore and SLX gear kits - the mech in the SLX pic will fit as it's smaller and the clamp sits lower down

I think both my '04 Enduros have bottom pull, top swing XT front mechs.
