mate at work calls his road bike Debbie.

He has always had a thing for Debbie Harry and he openly admits this is the only way he gets to 'ride Debbie' ๐Ÿ˜•

It's as bad as calling your bike a 'steed'.

Sad I know but the only way I could afford my Cotic Soul build was due to the death of my Aunt, she left me some money so my bike is known to me as aunty Mary. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

That's all right, I think. I did a road ride with a chap recently who rides Colnagos. He has contacts at the factory so, instead of the usual "Ernesto Colnago" siganture on the top tube, he has his mother's name: Dorothy Louise. She's also deceased and, he said, he did it because she would have been amused to know he was a cyclist.

Mine are altogether more prosaic:

Winter road bike: "No.1 bike"
Summer road bike: "good bike" or "race bike"
Cotic Soul: "Cotic" or "mountain bike" or "black bike"
Kona lavadome: "Kona" or "singlespeed" or "purple bike"
Track bike: "track bike"
Road fixed: "fixed bike"

I decided ages ago that if it had a name it should be something pretty and inappropriate, like Samantha Dekerf.

But as I've only got one, it's usually referred to as "it" or "my bike".

I'm a girl so I'm allowed to name my bikes.... FS is Black Beauty (and is black), HT is Piglet (steel aka pig iron, and with pink bits), Roadie is Flicka (as in the horse not the photo hosting website).

The OH has Stumpy (cause it is) and "The Beast" (old heavy HT).

Am I really really sad?? ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜€

Jeff... well its actually jeff 1.5 it got upgraded

All my DH play bikes have been called Phil.. Phil1 and Phil2 both are no-more.

However I'm soon to be getting a more xc race style bike, what shall I call that?! I'm thinking quite a camp name as can't imagine an XC race bike being butch now not like Phil!

And my car is called Paul... me and my wife like the term personification!

Bike naming is silly. As opposed to trail naming which is perfectly all right. My road bike is known as "The Essex Lightening", but was named by someone else with more than a nod to irony. I liked that.

Generally if I'm addressing a bike directly it's something like "Shift Gears you Chainsucking, Recalcitrant, Mule Headed BStard".

The Big Dog - Cannondale Rize
Race Bike - Scott Spark
Singlespeed - Cotic Simple
Road Bike - Gary Fisher Triton (singlespeed)

Looks like that makes me normal, rather than boring.

Just like Aunty Mary and Jessie, our tandem is called Nancy as she was only bought due to a small inheritance when my Grandma died.
My mum thought it pretty funny, Grandma, although being brilliant, was never known for getting muddy and she could never ride a bike!
It's a nice way to always remember her.
Love you Gran!

Rob

Ahem ๐Ÿ˜ณ

My old FS was known as "The Sofa".

The Ti is known as "The MLC".

The latest is known as "The New Girl".

The singlespeed is known as "Dirty Little Inbred".

The other one doesn't have a name.

Yeah, so go on, point and laugh ๐Ÿ™„

No names, but when missus asks me to move bike/s or enquires "are those new shiny bits on your bike????" she referes to them as thus:

Big bike (Rocky Mountain Switch 2)
Green bike (On One SS)
Blue Bike (Curtis FR)
New Bike (Cotic Soul)
Skinny Bike (Bianchi)
Gold bike (Kona Dew Delux)

Which is fine by me as I can just about remember my kids names let alone naming my bikes.

My Mrs bought me my Inbred frame as an engagement present (well she did get a ring!) so its called Ballard, which is her maiden name.

Other bikes just called what they are called, although I might try to come up with something better...

Similar to Sturmy, my Blur is called Hilda after my dearly departed Grandmother who left me a bit of money with instructions to enjoy it. And enjoy it I do, as often as I can. I'll never part with it.

Also, "The Big Lad" Ellsworth Moment
"The Rat" Cotic Road Rat
"The Thug" Chameleon
"The Lady" Ribble 653
"The Mrs's Bike" Old Frankenbike built from bits.
