UPDATE

Police rang me this morning and found the man who knocked me off my bike, Got all his insurance details now and address and accident number. So I will be giving his insurance people a ring soon.

Police were going to call him with the good news of how much my bike would be to replace (£2000) 😆

Anyway am getting there, still a few aches and pains, but am a lot better than I was 2 weeks ago. 😀

Did they indicate if a prosecution was likely?

that's good too - drivers shoudl be held responsible for their actions in law as well as financially.

Yeah, I know where you mean. Surprised someone managed to hit you there though - it's not like it's narrow/difficult to see or anything like that.

Anyway, hope you and your bike get sorted asap.

Thats nice of them.

I'm sure you'd rather have not gone through the experience but glad it's turned out like it has and you've not been left with nothing or seriously injured.

My point is this money has to come from somewhere, it's not free. The system is knackered and needs revising. If people get injured to such an extent that it hinders or haults everyday life and indeed inpacts on their ability to go to work fair enough. But this is becoming all too common that people are just being given compensation without due consideration.

I'm in no way having a go at you Simon, its just that this is the reason my insurance is not going down even though i've got a clean licence and no claims!

Any news on action taken by the police against the driver?

Know what you mean mate. All I wanted was the money to replace my bike like for like. I haven't seen a solicitor for companion because am not the suing type, but the insurance company offered me the money.

I thought the reason the gave you compensation was so they could say full and final settlement to stop you going back if you find it has caused bigger issues further down the line.

The £2k is 'don't bother us again' money.

If you bank the money and then your leg falls off next week and you try and claim it was a result of the accident they'll point out that this paymen tis in 'full and final' settlement and you can whistle.

probably cheaper (for everyone) for them to offer £2k than have to start getting solicitors involved unless they have to.

Neil, if you're injured through no fault of your own and can't work, its fair enough the driver (or their insurance) should cover your loss of earnings.
And likewise, why should you be inconvenienced in your personal life becasue of someone else being an idiot? Hence compo for the injuries.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to sue the forestry comission if I trip over a root in the forest, but if some ****er drives their car in an illegal manner (breaking laws which are there for the safety of other road users) I don't see why their insurance (or even themselves) shouldn't pay something. That "something" is always an amount up for debate though. What price happiness?

Thats exactlty the reason, but if there's no further health issues its not cheaper.........

My point was that if you DIDN'T miss work and it DIDN'T stop you going about your normal routine.

I'm mainly a car driver, and I ride my bike occasionally. So I'm certainly not anti-drivers.

Surely if you hit someone with your vehicle, unless you can prove immediately that you are 100% innocent (e.g. witnesses all agree hit person jumped out in front of you whilst you were driving 100% within in law, and you stopped and gave first aid), you should have your driving licence revoked immediately pending a court appearance. Do we really want someone who runs people over and then leaves the scene still driving around?

+1 did the police, other than locating & passing on his details (which was nice), follow up the accident at all from a road safety point of view?

Yes he has been charged for leaving the scene AND not informing the police of the accident within 24 hr after it had happened.

Dont know how many points or what his fine was.

Leaving the scene of an accident results in a custodial sentence on a regular basis. The Courts take it very seriously.

The wife of a friend's colleague got 6-months for 'leaving the scene' when no one was injured. There were no other charges and it was her first offence.

At the very least I'd imagine he'll be getting quite a few points a a hefty fine for his disinlination to stop!

What's the £2000 for injuries for?

As for me 2 grazed knees, badly bruised right big toe, sore back, some of my fingers are hurting, not walking very well.

Sounds reasonable to me

2000 does sound reasonable if you have you made a full recovery with no lasting symptoms?

I was hit by a car 3 years ago. Entirely her fault and landed hevily on my left shoulder resulting in a mild dislocation of my collar bone. Hasn't returned to it's original position, I underwent extra phsyiotherapy as I was suffering a number of significant symptoms. I still get discomfort and niggling pain now, Especially when doing certain activities (like carrying a rucksack). I chose to let the CTC handle my case through their solicitors.

Yesterday I was awarded in court a significant compensation pay out.

The money doesn't stop me wishing it hadn't happened. The accident has changed the sort of riding I do and I regularly feel nervous riding on the road as a result.

I agree with you, hence why I will properly buy another MTB instead of replacing my road bike.

All this has put my off road riding 😥
