he has always commented that it would not be one of the usual racer suspects that would complete this first, but that it would be more or a mountain man

This is awesome news, please pass on my congratulations to the guy. I can't wait to read about his adventure and if he'd like a mention on my blog please ask him to get in touch.

I'm really pleased that the 7ds is doing what it set out to - inspire others - there are two others attempting the WHW Double next month so with this ride that makes 3 already. Really great.

I hope he recovers well and that he tells the story as it will surely inspire many tohers to have a great adventure.

I've heard the met office can see the dust trails from their weather satellites now.
Conclusive proof if any was needed.

Given the lack of GPS tracker files, blog, pictures etc it'll have to be conclusive proof!

Glupton i.e. Smee/Trolling Zoo Fighter etc etc?

Did he leave those on the trails in a cloud of dust on his singlespeed?

Wow, good work! Admirable lack of fanfare as well ๐Ÿ˜€

Would be interested to know the pacing, 36 hours must have included lots of mini-stops, one mega stop, or just a very gradual pace for the whole thing? Assuming for someone like Glupton that it would be approx 14 hours there, maybe slightly less back?

Gearing up for a slightly reluctant one way attempt next weekend, suddenly feels like we're not trying!

This will all make far more sense to you when you try it one way ๐Ÿ˜‰

imo 36 hrs is on the money for this challenge. First thing that struck me about RL attempt was that his pace was far too high.

Oh and respect to the guy whoever he is.

Given the amount of BS he talks on here I'd really like to see some evidence. ๐Ÿ˜›

There will be no photos or story published. As i'm sure you are all aware, it's just not his style.

At least the rain kept the dust down. I have relatives about to fly in and was worried about cancellations!

Am I missing something here - other than someone meeting him in the carpark at the end of the ride is there any 'proof' that he actually did the ride.

I'm willing to accept 'he just has' as an answer I just wondered if, given his track record, that was enough?

I though the picture was 'for illustrative purposes only' to prove that Glupton might own a bike, albeit that he carries it.
