Can you just turn up and use them? or do you need to be a member of the MBA?
You can just turn up, no need to be a member, although most folk I know who use them are members just so they are giving something for the upkeep etc...
Bothy's are over rated. It wouldn't bothyer if I were you. ๐

Thats the idea - leave it as you found it (or better). Enjoy while you are there.
Thems the only rules.
Cool, just wanted to double check, I will join anyway as there are far to many freeloaders about and I have no problem with paying my way ๐
Bothy's can't be beat just turn up choose your bunk. Next day leave things tidy and head for the next one. Ended up staying overnight next to the Queen, who was in the cottage next to the Bothy, a couple of years ago... ๐ฏ I suppose it saved the Queen carrying a tent... ๐
they look like a great way to do some multiday Scottish rides ๐ roll on the summer
I always wanted to try it, then I concluded that they're not going to be that warm unless near a place for firewood, hunting for firewood would be no fun and for the sake of a 1.5kg 300mmx80mmdiam tent in the rucksack it doesnt seem worth bothering. Especially when it might be full so you need to take a tent too?
I carried a load of charcoal into the one we stopped at last weekend.
'twas hard work riding with mine and the Mrs's sleeping kit on my bike/ my back and a big ****off bag of fuel for the fire ballanced on my bars. ๐ฏ

Ah but when you're inside on a comfy bunk, the fire is roaring away, it is a really different thing to camping. Especially in cold weather, nothing beats a hut with a good fire going.

Bothys are excellent however like french toilets not all bothys are equal remember do some research or you might get a hole in the ground covered in poo rather than a nice clean sit down
Havn't used them myself but know folks who do. If you are going to try the popular bothys at popular times you might need to take a tent anyway as they could be full
