My wife has just set off to ride the Great Glen Way today. She’s just phoned to tell me that her dropper post won’t stay up and if she presses the lever it just goes further down. Obviously I am expected to resolve this remotely from the house. It’s an X-Fusion but quite a few years old. She put it in her friends van last night ready for today, and apparently it’s spent the night upside down, so I’m guessing there’s a load of air in the wrong place? Any suggestions?

make sure the cable outer isn't pulled too taught

Would the sagging reverb trick work. I think you have it fully extended, turn the bike upside down then depress it.

These are cable-activated (I believe - I don't own one).

Obvious problem is that the cable is too tight and pulling the valve open - check the routing and back off the tension is my advice.

I wondered about the cable but it’s worked fine for years and now after one night upside down it’s misbehaving.

First thing to check.

Also, I have a BrandX that had a stiff lever and started jamming after I put the bike upside down. Turns out the lever had rotated and was rubbing against the shifter clamp when it was depressed (I run the lever on the right, mounted above the bars).

In the spirit of hope for the best, plan for the worst... if for whatever reason it can't be fixed then assuming it's inserted into the frame as low as it can go to achieve the desired drop, I'd raise the whole post up and ride it as a fixed seat post.

Alternatively, if she's starting in Ft. Bill then there are a few bike shops that might be able to fix it, or she could buy a cheap fixed seat post to use for the day.

After a lengthy explanation about the minimum insertion marker, this is the chosen solution.

Cable adjustment made no difference. Not sure about disconnecting it, she’s on her way again now!

Granted it's not an ideal solution but the main thing is she can keep riding!

I run an xfusion dropper (internally routed). Could be that the nipple on the end of the cable is now not seated properly causing the cable to be effectively too short and always as if the lever is pushed, an other option is the seatpost has been adjusted to be higher than before and the cable outer has not been fed into the frame at the same time - had this on a test ride of another bike
