I'm sure STW would have sent an investigative reporter if Sick were based somewhere mountainous and sunny but, y'know, Worthing.ย  Everyone was suddenly busy ๐Ÿ™‚

Some interesting comments on their Instagram.
Including what I feel is a very poor business model.

Have to ask...

Have Sick! blamed Brexit yet for their problems?

Possibly the uncertainty the process has caused to our great friend and trading partner, Peru?

that went over his headโ€ฆ.

What really goes over their heads is that the recent negative threads about Sick only exist on STW & Pinkbike because they're not delivering frames bought & paid for months ago. If they'd actually delivered the frames people had ordered, its more likely we'd be getting new bike threads with Sick bike frames...might change folks mind on previous impressions of them & generate some sales. But hey, they're doing great...they dont need our sort buying from them 🙄

You jest but Seville is in Spain which is in Europe. Seville is where marmalade oranges come from so leaving the EU poses significant risks to the availability of marmalade in the UK and thusly jeopardises the supply of marmalade sandwiches, which everyone knows are a Peruvian's favourite food so could massively impact their desire to deal with the UK. Certainly no grizzly would be likely to travel here instead of remaining in Peru without access to such food stuffs.

wooahhh
Rewind that for me
Marmalade is going to rationed from March 29th ? Hth did get into this mess
Its like Deja Vue all over again , are there going to be marmalde ration books like in 1942 ?
Is there going to be a black market economey for breakfast preserves?
Do I need to liquidate some assets and go N-1 to buy in stocks of this dwindling natural resource like right now, this minute?
Holy crapola batman

For the full effect he should also not bother shipping it but keep saying it will be there soon

their replies (and which questions they choose to reply to) show they absolutely have no intention of changing their 'business model'. They're almost relishing in the frustration of people who've given them money for nothing.

Good for drawing stickmen mum and dad on a hill with a massive gap between the green hill they are standing on , and the blue sky above . When you are 5 .
And you run home full of enthusiasm and your mum blu - tacs the awful shit diorama on the fridge and gets you a big glass of kia-ora as a reward Whilst she quietly sips gin to ease herself into the evening

I think you might be on to something there Poop.
Sick! could probably get a few more deposits for the new Invisiporn model they are due to launch this spring
Get an Insta Frenzy going on the lucky customer's bike being lovingly wrapped in bubble wrap , with placcy axles going in to protect the stays. The photos of the bubbled wrapped bike being boxed up , and collected by a smiling chap in a TNT polo shirt ( best not show the ones where he launches it into the back of his Ford Cargo.)
Than another photo of the super grateful customers bikebox being delivered by the same smiling TNT man. Then the new owner gets to unwrap his bike like all of his xmassses have come at once. High 5's all round and fist bumps bro.
Its a marketing man ( or womans ) wet dream come true .

From sirromj link

Please note, we can offer this incredible price due to theย  preorder nature of this frame. Full global delivery will be circa 15stย May 2019.

15st? I think that date could have been a little undecided 😄

Wow that looks like a proper gopping BSO with those wheels.

I can also hear the shock screaming already from the loadings from that flexy back end.

They just seem to be repeating the same mistakes. I mean I don't really care - it's their business and I wont be buying, but when you see how hard Cy @ Cotic, Dan Stanton, Sam @ Singular, Joe @ Starling, BTR and loads of others have worked to refine and generate confidence in their designs and really put themselves out there and bent over backwards to be open, apologise for mistakes, etc it's no wonder that we're a bit dumbfounded by Sick!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the old Taiwanese business model used to be save up enough for a batch of frames, generate a little hype on the way while they get built, then as soon as they are on a boat, start taking orders. As soon as you've got some firm orders and you see a pattern of which sizes/colours sell, then you place your second order which should arrive 2 months after the first frames hit the UK. If you flew over a couple of frames to check personally, then you can correct any mistakes/make improvements in time for ordering the second batch.
In the meantime you've got a load of 'New Bike Day' posts of people raving about your frame so that you can sell out the second batch as soon as it gets on the boat.

Then slowly work your way away from this model, into one where you hold stock and customers don't have to wait or gamble any more.

Then, when everyone is happy that you're a decent sort of company, eventually launch a new model ๐Ÿ™‚

Seems to me that they don't want to take the risk with the capital expenditure or holding stock.
Having the drop model means they can order the numbers based on orders received, so zero risk to them. Just slap on an additional few weeks* waiting time and take a lower margin, then people seem to accept it**.

- * Months/years
- ** unless they aren't transparent and lack CS

How many times when designing that frame did they think "ooh, that's a bit flexy/snappy, better stick a brace in"? It's practically a space frame!

Leaving aside the retro 80's mag-esq wheels for a moment, there's something that just looks wrong with that frame. It's too slack and, to me at least, it looks like the sag of the rider would make it like riding a downhill specific lowrider.

Apart from the chain length, is it really much different to this:

Rosetta Sport LA

I've attended a fair few startup events, met various entrepreneurs etc, and it's really noticeable the extent to which this sensible model is being absolutely binned. People, generally younger people, want their business to be successful instantly; and they keep being told that it's the new normal. It's totally mental; but they see companies like Uber (losing $3bn a year), Netflix (losing $2bn a year), even Faraday being lauded as the future of business and think they can run a business like that in the real world.
