Right guys - thinking of building my 1st set of wheels - budget £300 or less. What's thoughts on ultimate combo?
I'm a big fan now of buying used wheels and recycling the hubs- if you do it right you can get top quality hubs for the price of mediocre ones. (if you do it wrong, you end up probably spending loads of money mind)
WTB and DT have some great rims these days.
Depends on intended use for the rim, but I picked up some white Stans Flows for peanuts recently, as everyone wants black. WTB rims are good too and usually fairly cheap. The new DT rims are very good too and aren't silly expensive.
Hubs wise, should just be able to squeak Hope's into your budget if you buy wisely, or even some DT Swiss 350's if you can. Don't be tempted by Superstar hubs, it will end in tears!
FWIW just saw a guy on a Facebook page last night selling some mint condition Crossmax XL 29er wheels for £300 though, having just bought a new set myself that's probably where my £300 would go right now.
