I'm interested in buying something for sale on there, still waiting for access, despite a mate prompting a moderator. Anyone else actually managed to get on, and did you have to perform the Masonic eHandshake?. ๐Ÿ˜†

I do find it amusing, even somewhat ironic, that the fat bike 'community' has the only private, closed-door bike forum in I know of - you can't even view it without joining.

(And I've had a fat bike for longer than most, before anyone asks. It's just another type of bicycle, not a secretive club or excuse to take yourself far too seriously!)

I think everyone will agree with you, it should be 'open'

Or more to the point, why on earth is it 'closed'

There's always the facebook group

- you can't even view it without joining.
I'm buggered if I can recall the reason for that. Something to do with security of bikes/vehicles at get-togethers? I know some other forums restrict access to specific sub-forums for that reason.

A UK fat bike moderator here.

No one wanted the job of moderating or helping on line running the site.

There have been a few issues of admin "throwing the toys out of the pram" and now there is only the very patient Jason who has to deal with hundreds of spam accounts trying to kill the site and those who have tried to register on there a daily basis.

Jason has been away on holiday and he has a job, a family, a life and also wants to ride his bike from time to time. So can't be sitting on the site 24/7, it's voluntary you know.

We didn't chose the platform that we are currently using and can't take "control" from the current owner.

To help Jason who I've asked to look in on this thread.

Please can you list below the forum user name you registered with and the approximate day that you entered it in the site.

Or simply register again tonight and write the details below.

Thanks for understanding.

Is that why it's a closed forum, John? And who is the 'current owner' then..?

All I know it's a very easy to hack basic old fashioned site and we are in talks with the original owner admin but are bashing our heads against a wall

[waves] Hello.

I don't think this is the place to discuss matters of ownership etc. Wouldn't be fair or right. Yup, it's clunky old forum software with poor anti-spam tools.

Apols to those who've not successfully registered - did you check your spam folders for activation email? - can you please re-register and if your username is same as here I'll look out for it in the sea of spam that creeps past our filters.

Cheers
Jason

<edit to clarify> I'm not the original (or indeed present) owner

You should have just received a second (activation) email. These often end up in servers' spam folders.

Give it a while, if not there I'l sort it.

I'd just assumed ukfatbikes.co.uk was nothing to do with bicycles and more of a Specialist site...

Now I find it's an ultra elite novelty bike forum I simply have to register...

If you're not in the UK, your IP address may be in a range that spam has been received from. If so, you'll need to PM me (can you PM in this forum??) and I'll get it sorted.

Sorry. Not seeing you, bumper. Are you in UK? I have a suspicion your IP address is being blocked maybe.

Can I ask you to try one more time, and tell me the time you did so? Be easier off-forum, but I dunno if we have means to PM/email via here.
