I've just noticed a small - no more than half an inch - cut in my tyre sidewall. Inner was just poking through it, but I'd been riding on it for some distance. The cut itself is small enough to be closed with superglue, and is holding nicely. But to be sure when out on a ride I'd like to put a patch on the inside "just to be safe".
What suggestions does the collective have for the best sort of patch to use? Old type tyre repair kits used to have a tyre wall patch, but I've not seen them for years, so what's best? Will a Park Emergency Patch last long term?
Or should I just ditch the tyre?
i've split tyres on rides and fixed with a park tyre boot
then once home I've added a layer or two of gaffer tape behind the boot, and sealed the tear with superglue
easily get a few extra months out of a tyre that way
On a mtb I have duct taped them or put a piece of inner tube between the tyre wall and tube. Have also glued them. Just keep an eye on it will give out after a while just when...hopefully not on a desolete night ride!
Road bike tyre no way ever!
cut a patch from an old tyre and superglue it inside. works fine & cheap.
Sand the inside of the tyre and the boot lightly, helps the bond. Standard patch glue also works pretty well, or specialist rubber adhesive.
Duck tape if the way to go, sick a strip on the inside of the tire worked wonders for me over the last 3 or 4 rides ๐
If you can get the two sides of the cut to glue, then you just need to support the inside to stop the tube poking through, a park patch will work, but you can also use a peice from a plastic milk bottle, cut it big and just fix it in place it hasn't got to seal, silican, PVA, snot anything sticky.
If you can run it on the back. Then if for some reason it lets go its a bit more controllable.
Oh, the other thing is have any of the cords been cut, i had a MK go the other week and the cords must be under tension. As the tyre buckled, but not the wheel!
