It's almost about that time again, just thought I'd get in first ๐
Managed the 100k last year on a set of xc pros which are now past their best so I'd like to try something new as I've never really been that impressed by them on my local loops. I'm on my winter tyres at the minute, bonty mud x on the front and a trailraker on the back and I'm hoping I'll have those off before April ๐ฏ
What's the choice of the local riders down there? I was thinking of trying the NN/RR combo or I might go for a full new set of 2.1 racing ralphs, any other thoughts? I also have a 2.1 panaracer razor xc which was a great fast rolling tyre on the back but has a tear in it now.
Cheers all
You'd be better off asking the week before as it all depends on the weather. At the moment its a choice of Trailrakers and FireXC types depending on which trails you're on. Keep and eye on the weather between now and then, of it ramains dry then FireXC or some good XC type of tyres if its wet then myd tyres all the way.
I've alway gone for Conti 1.5 XC's for the HONC, not draggy on the tarmac and grippy in the mud.
I've always used some 1.8 Trailblasters that are pretty much worn out. Great for the road bits and all right on the off-road bits.
If todays conditions are any thing to go by (conditions on the 50k route), some thing like a 1.8 Fire XC should be fine. But as Sheldon says, its
better to wait till nearer the date.
