Just started cycling in earnest in the last couple of months with a view to completing the Oxford to Cambridge cycle ride in September. The bike I'm currently using is one of these mountain bike style, two for the price of one mail order jobs and to be honest I think the tyres are too slow and cumbersome (not to mention probably cheap). Any advice on suitable replacement? Looked at Schwalbe Marathon, any good?
I'm not familiar with the Oxford/Cambridge ride. What sort of terrain is it? Is it mostly canal path/gravel tracks?
Specialized Nimbus Armadillos in 1.25 would be good
not tried the Marathons
EDIT: it's on tarmac so pump them up as hard as they'll take
Yeah the Oxford - Cambridge is pretty much all road terrain I'm sure.
Thanks for the advice I'll check the Nimbus out; what's a reasonable price to pay for them?
Ok, if it's slick tyres for an MTB I can wholeheartedly reccommend the Continental Sport Contact - very fast. Go 1.5" wide at 60 psi for comfort or 1.3" wide at 90 psi for all out speed/low rolling resistance.
