What's the current go-to choice for turbo trainer pain cave fans?
I think it used to be a floor fan jobby, approx £30 from screwfix?
My limit is £50
What you got, what do you suggest?
Thanks

The floor fan from screwfix is still excellent

Dunno but apparently the thing to do is to use a wifi plug on it, so you can turn it on easily when you start to get hot.

I got an SIP one from ToolStation which is basically the same as the Screwfix model, but in black, and it too is excellent.

Cleva Vacmaster - https://www.cleva-uk.com/products/vacmaster-air-mover A little over your budget but it's effective as it's very directional.

I've also a pedestal fan like this one https://www.screwfix.com/p/tx-1608b-16-pedestal-fan-220-240v/4388k and the Vacmaster on its lowest setting blows that out of the water. We are talking hurricane vs summer breeze difference.

CPC also have one which is basically the same as the screwfix floor fan. Pro-Elec 18" High Velocity Floor Fan.
The exact stock seems to vary wildly. Mine is 110W, way overpowered for any ordinary household use, but perfect for zwift.

I've got a Screwfix floor one.

It looks like it's changed slightly, the blades are subtly different and it has a dial on the back rather than 4 buttons (off, 1,2,3).

Pro's, even on low it's pushing a massive amount of air. Even in the conservatory in summer I've only used setting 2 (air temp was 43!). I did once put it on a table on 3 and it actually prompted me to ride in the drops as it feels like a significant headwind!

Con's it's noisy (new blade design might be an effort to change that? Mines probably 10 years old) . How much that annoys you will depend on whether you spent a lot of money on a 'silent' turbo trainer and whether you like loud music. It's only an issue for me if my OH is working in the dining room and I can't turn the music up to drown it out.

I keep meaning to take the back cover off and see if it could be modified to make the settings more like 0.3/0.6/1 as 2 and 3 are only really useful if you were trying to blow air around a much bigger workshop rather than directly at you.

Thanks all.
That CLEVA one looks interestingly different. I guess you can prop it up to get the angle exactly right. It's still twice-ish the price of the floor fans, although I see there's a 10% discount code "trainerroad10" so I might bite the bullet.

I have an oylmpa 18" floor fan. Fairly cheap and pushes enough air for all but hot summer usage. I mostly use it on max. Not quiet but not too bad.

I have the cleva and find it really good. It can sit in a number of different positions depending on where you place it and where you want the flow. I sit a small towel on my handlebars and the majority goes onto my core but a little gets diverted to my face which makes a big difference to perceived heat.

Get a centrifugal fan like the cleva (vs a radial one like the Screwfix)

The difference is night and day, whilst the Screwfix one is good the cleva is so much more effective at cooling whilst you're on the turbo!

The only downside is you can't use it for much else as it's so damn powerful!

My cleva fan came in useful to dry out the carpet when we had a water leak at the beginning of lockdown. Lent it to our neighbours for the same purpose when they had a water leak 3 months later. Both in 5 year old new builds when the plastic pipe popped out of the joint. Would appear the plumber like to maximise the pipe usage and cut the pipes a bit short!

I've a 20" Pro-Elec one, which has been plenty. Never run it on max.

The Cleva fan arrived today (I used the trainerroad10 10% discount voucher code) and I'm very pleased with it. Considering the amount of blow it gives, it's very quiet too.
It feels very sturdy, from the cable, to the casing, to the switch, it all feels as though it should last really well. Thanks for the recommendation.

How noisy is the Screwfix fan? I'll be using the turbo when the kids are in bed and I'll be in the (single story extension) summer room so not directly below but not far off their bedrooms. I can open a door to get fresh air in if that makes a difference?
