[#929683]

I bought a tricross single off here a couple of months back, it came with shimano cantis, tektro drop levers and sissy levers.

The cantis seem to be set up well, but when pulling on the drop levers, the feeling is dead, with limited pull and the bike doesn't stop well.

The sissy levers stop the bike better, but they come too close to the bars for them to be effective.

I have adjusted toe in and tried to tighten and loosen distance of the pads from the rim, but not much better.

What am I doing wrong or are my expectations too high?

Should I consider replacing the levers, cantis and/or brake pads. What should I replace them with?

Thanks

My Tricross Singlecross (2008 model) came with V brakes - maybe yours has levers with pull for Vs? I'd try to find the model number of the levers and look it up on the Tektro website to check what you've got.

i've got a set of mini v's off a tricross you could have for a suitable price if this turns out to be the problem

I think the single comes with Vs and the geared comes with Cantis. Reason being that you can't get combined gear & brake levers for Vs.

my '09 tricross sport came with mini v's which use a canti lever iirc

i now have tektro 720s

i guess that if what Big John says is correct the levers are not appropriate for cantis?

it may depend on vinage but all singlecrosses that i have sen including my own come with mini v's. the lever is quite bulky and rounded, i'll check the number lter. if you run that lever with cantis the braking is crap. i sent ages setting some cantis up to work well, using the correct levers. now gone back to the original as I needed the levers for another project. Probably better with the v's although they look naff. try that if you can but check the numbers on the levers.

So lets assume a mismatch between canti and v's.

Should I switch the levers to canti compatible or the cantis to mini v's?

Also, do normal road levers work with v's or canti's?

Thanks

edit, ah yes, looks like the brakes have been swapped, although for better brakes:

So, the brake levers seem to be these:

Can I just put some old V brakes on or will mini v's be required?
