What is the easiest way to do this? I have been given a laptop full of pics to empty onto a PC and was wandering what the easiest/best way to do this would be? Any suggestions appreciated.

If they are both fairly modern, with modern operating systems on them, try plugging an Ethernet network cable between them directly (you won't need a special one, they will handle that) and see if they appear as shared folders on the other computer.

If not, more complicated means are necessary...

a free dropbox account would work. 2GB of internet based storage. Copy all files to the account and access them from either machine.

Thanks for that Rachel - will give it a go. TBH hadn't thought of that!!!

Laptop is Vista 3 years old-ish
PC is Windows 7 2 years old built it myself

Don't think i will have a problem linking them via ethernet - as long as they talk to each other

Baldy - good option too, unfortunately they have filled it to capacity with pics, videos and all manner of files on top. 120gb hard drive with no space left, it hardly runs at all 🙂

As above or via a USB memory stick if you have one, (cheap to buy and useful)

Jambalaya - got a usb stick but only 1gb and 2gb ones. Don't fancy nearly 98gb of files transferred with them

Do you have an Ipod? Just use it as a big flash drive.

I use an external HDD, fine if you've got one, expensive option if not.

External Hard Drives are getting cheaper all the time. I picked up a 500GB for £40 from PC world.

Ethernet between the two, create a share on the new machine, mount it on the old one, drag and drop. I did this for my sister in law a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty easy to set up.

Dragging everything into one folder on the new machine will also give them a good opportunity to tidy up/organise.
