[Closed] Trance shock - is this stuck?

[#403792]

I just bought a 2006 trance 2 s/h, I'm a bit concerned that the rear shock fully extended appears quite short, but I've no real idea of how it should look. I've read it should be 6.5 inches eye to eye with a 1.5 inch stroke - now unless I'm measuring it wrong I'm sure it isn't that!

Any thoughts?

It does look a bit short

What trance have you got is it one with a pierced downtube or a cradle in the down tube??

Mine is pearced I will measure the shock length for you in the morning if that helps

Is this a big job? On a scale of I do it, normal LBS does it, or a properly specialised send it away jobby. Presumably opening it myself is likely to result in a big bang a la

You can do it but it makes a bit of a pop - Perhaps send it away, and get them to make the rebound a little stronger as they do tend suffer with enough on them older Trance's

TFT is always good - get it serviced up and sorted and your trance'll be awesome. Had one for 3 years and it was awesome. Then the shock got sorted after I had the same problem, it was even better.

Yeah, defo stuck down.

Same thing had happened to my 2005 stumpy when I bought it off ebay - I noticed it when I got home and had a proper ride on it and it felt a bit funny.

I emailed the bloke I bought it off and he gave me £45 back towards the price of a service. It's worth asking the person you got it off - they probably knew this had happened, and hoped you wouldn't notice. If they're decent they should refund you a bit.

I sent mine off to Mojo. Spoke to a guy there and told him the problem, was told that a service would sort it out. Apparently it's a known issue with older Fox rear air shocks, but the new seals, etc. that will be fitted mean it shouldn't happen again. Good service, posted it off on the tuesday, and got it back on the following saturday.

I've emailed the seller about it. The bike also came with a bent hanger so I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing. I sent him a link to this thread as well so it'll be interesting to hear back what he thinks.

Did he post it to you, or did you collect it? TBH, I'd always pick up a bike I bought in person, as you never know what might be wrong with it, or what the courier might do to it. Also means the seller can try and blame the courier for any damage.

Posted unfortunately. I'd say it's quite possible that the hanger could have been bent in transit and it's replaceable for a tenner. I'm more fussed about the stuck shock really as it's probably 80 quids worth of servicing! The frame is otherwise fine and it was well packed, but I can't see the shock problem being the postie's fault! Anyway, benefit of the doubt to the chap who sold it until I hear back from them.

My trance shock (RP3) stuck down this winter. Apparently it's really common when it's cold. I serviced it myself and found it a really easy job to do. Shock works nicely now and took me 20mins. Does make a scary pop when it goes though.

With the bent hanger and the shock, I'd be asking for my money back. I can sell you a hanger for a few quid though.
