Looking at getting something to use during these cold dark nights and fancy a turbo or a set of rollers ..
What do others use ?? and are they worth the dosh ??

Cheers

I use a turbo trainer. My view is that it's really boring and not worth spending a lot on as you will soon get bored. You may stick with it but don't splash out too much.

Tranz X turbo trainer. Brand new from eBay for £40 is good enough for me.

As far as I understand, rollers only let you spin, there's no much option for hard work on them....

Er.. how about the one's with resistance?

Plus you seen the people modding them:

Rollers are good for everything but strength workouts. Can easily do a hard tempo session on them. Much prefer them to riding the turbo, far less chance of getting bored.

Great video, wish I'd videoed my first attempts. Even now (after riding them for two years, originally bought for knee injury rehab) I put emphasis on getting going rather than getting clipped in, that way the wheels are spinning and you can move the bike under your COG to stay upright.

Rollers LOL might as well go out in the snow

Both have merits.
Turbos let you work on outright strength and power
Rollers are very good for balance and smoothness, and the newer variable resistance ones are pretty good too, though pricey.

Not tried the rollers but the turbo trainers are very good
You need to have a structured work out and HRM to get the best out of them
Painful but not boring if you use them right
