Afan being rather rocky drains really well - was there last weekend during some of the worst rain and it was still riding well.

Was there last sunday.
Did the Wall and Whites Level (separately) and trail conditions were fine.
Just be aware that they've shut off the end of Whites Level, everything from the end of the Energy section.
They send you on a bleeding HUGE diversion on fire road over to pick up the final descent of Skyline.
While there's noubt wrong with that descent the trek to get there is a bit of a ballache.
Overall a good day, but a leg burner...or maybe I'm just fat and unfit...

I was there Fri/ Sat and it was riding well.
White's is getting pretty physical/ tiring as it's mostly rock now as it's all been washed away.
The Wall was riding very well.
There's the odd puddle kicking around but when isn't there?
Didn't do W2 so don't know what it's like inbetween.

Does this mean the Darkside section is closed?

If so, does anyone know how long this will be closed for? I'm coming up next weekend (Fri 27th) and this is my mates favourite section. He'll be gutted!

Yep, Darkside is closed for logging.
See http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/ourwoods.nsf/LUwebdocsBykey/WalesNeathPortTalbotAfanForestParkAfanForestParkGlyncorrwgMountainBikeCentreWhitesLevel
Its in the "open/closed" section on the right-hand side.

Twas a PITA for me, as it's my favourite run there too.

I'd take new or spare pads with you, Afan always eats mine when it's wet

As above, I went last saturday to do Whites, and the diversion is a shame as it ruins the flow. Still, the decent was worth it in the end, so thats ok.

Brake pads survived, but BB died a noisy death!

Still?
Anyone know when it's due to reopen?

I did a lap of W2 earlier, its all pretty clear but the greenery either side of zigzags is getting out of control. Lots of gritty sand about but hopefully it will be less of a problem with a bit of dry weather forecast for the weekend.

I've read its long term. Rebuilding a new final descent.
I hardly go there any more other than to do skyline.
