Having nicely raked my shin with the pins of a flat pedal late last week while trying to teach myself to bunny hop in flats I have just had a very satisfying scab picking session. It's the first time in years that I've done that and it almost, almost made up for the pain felt when the hop went wrong. 😥
I did persevere and get the whole bike around 4 inches of the deck, woo and hoo for me!
The upside of flat pedals....
... is usually the same as the downside!
boo boom tish 😀
I slapped my right shin bunny hopping a 6" log in the forest on monday, it frickin hurt but i cleared it, god i am crap at bunny hops!
You'll realise the up-side when you watch someone stack and not be able to release themselves quick enough from their clip-ins. When I'm doing a somersault I'd rather not be taking my bike with me.

You might land it though.
Has anyone ever front fliped (deliberately) a bike with SPD's?
I side flipped one before.

Once did a cracking rolling endo once coming up to a gate with my mates. Well, it was until I went past the point of no return. 😳 Oh how my mates laughed. Flats all the way now for me.

that would be me. In Morzine. In 2009.
took me a long time to get used to flats, now the float in SPDs makes me feel insecure and I wont be going back.
The only time I use SPD's now is on the singlespeed
Only cos I have not got another pair of flats
But since returning to flats my riding has improved, along with my shin scars 😀
I use flats from now until march as the shoes are warmer
Flats only here too. It means I can use my bike to nip to the pie shop.
