Looking to set up my bike for yet more wet muddy riding. Going to use last years mud x 2.0 on the back and looking for something with more volume for the front (and more grip on wet rocks!)is The Baron black chili a good choice? Is it as grippy as a maxxis swamp thing super tacky ? Will i die if i use it in the dry?

It's a great tyre in both wet and dry if a bit draggy in dry

It is incredibly awesome tbh. About as good at proper mud as a swampy supertacky, but miles better at everything that isn't just slop. And much less draggy.

Only downside is the price I suppose, but they wear well too.

Anyone tried/compared the £15 non chili wire bead Barons or Queens against the Chili version?

I've only used it on the back on the dh bike (with a cut spike on the front), and it did well... But I don't think I'd use it as a trailbike rear, it's an awful lot of tyre.

I can't abide the Mud X on the front, but it's a decent rear when it comes to pushing mud. Personally though I usually just go for a mud-compatible knobbly. Minion 2.35, or a deknobbed nevegal, most likely, maybe an Excavator- they still do adequately in mud but work better the rest of the time. Reason the Baron is so excellent is that it doesn't overspecialise, and I'd keep that theme going.

But ymmv of course.
