Yup but your still listing 2kg+ of shelter/sleeping, 1kg+ of night clothing/waterproofs, at least 0.6kg of luggage, 0.2kg meths, 0.3kg+ bike spares.
Your over 4kg without any food just there, not including sundries like first aid?
I'm sorry I'm being pedantic, its just that I got excited that there may be a way of doing a 2-night trip with food, all under 4kg ๐
Only one way to settle this,
Super light adventure racing stripped down ...handbags! (at dawn)
1kg+ of clothes! Waterproof is 300g, add the down half sleeve @200g, Intense pants are under 250g and if weather is good are probably staying in the car when i leave same goes for the down warm weather it won't be needed. Pertex is silly light. Tent, mat, quilt, cooking inc meths and a Lhoon is 2-2.1kg. Most clothing is going to worn, X Bionic is good in that you don't feel hot or cold. So I'll be wearing, shorts, riding shirt, x bionic base. helmet, arm & leg warmers. 1st aid is sub 100g with pills, repacked in aloksak. What else do i need, it's a bike ride around wales! Never too far from a road so i'm not needing to carry much.
Food is the weight I agree, but with Machynleeth and Dolgellau on the way why carry food? Makes no sense to me, pack food is pretty lousy and a full breakfast or pizza will easily fuel you for riding, 1:25 maps will show pubs.
Add in the fact a Optimus crux and gas will weigh less than Meths and Burner I can loose more weight there too. Leave out stuff bags, etc. sub 5kg is achievable if you have the gear.
The plan is to come in with a fully loaded bike at around 35lb, it gives 9-10 lbs of luggage and gear to get on board.

Loaded up. All that needs to go in is my wallet and home cinema.
Not gone for ultra light but just light.
No idea what it weighs and couldn't give a toss really, but it's somewhere between 36-40 lbs including all my food for the whole event, although I may get some "hot" food from somewhere along the route.
Is anyone interested in stopping off for food before we get to Stuart's place on Saturday, last year we had an early lunch at the Aleppo Merchant in Carno, if Stuart is planning to do the raffle at 12.30, then I could enquire whether they would be willing to serve us a late breakfast or somesuch as we would need to be away from there about 12.00 to allow for fettling time. I'm guessing we will start about 1.00. Meeting at 11.00am would seem sensible, I realise not everyone is coming from the East but as Carno is only 6 miles from Pennant it's about the closest place I can think of. Let me know via here or e mail and I will enquire.
Nice paving ... very neat ๐
I was out all weekend (with Greg and Si, hi fellas) who were on a TD training weekend. We covered some fairly high mileage. I was riding my Inbred and carrying plenty of gear so the whole thing was pretty heavy. We also had tremendous headwinds much of the time, it also rained. The amazing thing is, regardless of what I've just said ... we all had a great time, which is what it's all about.
No one will have a better or worse time just because their stove is 4g lighter than someone elses ๐
EDIT: And I get page 9 ... how good's that?
Didnothingfatal, sorry it does feel like I have found someone who is on exactly the same wavelength and we are arguing over the same wonderful things:-) In the interest of fairness, to let you pick holes in my list here we go-

No one will have a better or worse time just because their stove is 4g lighter than someone elses
I'm not sure about that, given the competitive aspect of this game ๐
Think there should be a set of scales at the start and heaviest bike wins a spot prize. ๐
No one will have a better or worse time just because their stove is 4g lighter than someone elses
don't say that.
optimus crux 93g
msr pocket rocket 85g
i got 8g on didnothingfatal. what does 8g get me. eh? ๐
I've been weighing coffee options.
1 sachet of Starbucks Via is 2g
1 Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Colombian Filter coffee bag is 12g
I reckon I'll need about 6 cups of coffee, plus a couple of spares, means a massive 80g saving by taking Starbucks Via! Plus it's less faff than the coffee bags and tastes pretty good for the convenience.
HTH
Erm, the weigh your bike game at the wrt ... you fancy being in charge of it Flatfish?
I have just calculated the body I intend to use for the WRT is 3 stone heavier than it needs to be. Bugger!
I think my coke can stove will more than compensate though.
Not even attempting to weigh any of the kit, carrying what i need to have an enjoyable time, irrelevent of the weight.. More interested in having a couple of good days out riding the bike and eating wherever the tent gets pitched.. Just hope the weather is good..
The kit faffage is half the fun ๐
Nick, pump carried by riding partener ๐
Give me some scales and i'll be in charge of that game. ๐
Can we include the rider?
Out of curiosity, I have just weighed one of my socks at 19.3912 grams. Perhaps it is time to go home.
I'm undecided as to whether I should take the roll of roofing lead, might need it to waterproof the ridgeline on my tarp.
That's it!
I'm taking nowt and riding naked ๐ฏ
@molgrips my bar bag was fine once I mounted it on properly thankyou for your concern ๐
Has anyone seen this tent/shelter option, using an inner tube instead of poles, what a brilliant idea. here
Pistonbroke I've seen 'em but wouldn't fancy a sunny afternoon in one let alone a rainy, windy night. Have a search for Nemo tents, they use air rather than poles and are very good.
On another note, if you were sorting out a pre-ride food stop there is a cafe in Llanbrynmair at Machinations.
@Pete ... I can't wait ๐
Can we include the rider?
There's a chance I might win that contest...
with a weight contest perhaps the lightest rider/kit combo should be made to carry a weight penalty so we all carry the same weight be it kit or body mass.
Fair for everyone then ๐
Anthony, no issue this end ๐ But how many seats does your bike have as you have a underseat bag and a saddle bag?
What food are you taking?
maps not taking, a few prints of memory map will do, maybe on waterproof paper, if rain is likely.
Take a file to the Optimus crux and you'll get 10g off it, the block is over engineered.
Gps is looking like Suunto X10 which is wrist mounted
Haglofs pants will be swapped for OMM Kamleika if wet.
If weather forecast is really warm i'll go with a Mont Bell Down Hugger UL #6 and save some weight.
Is any one taking a trowel for burying their number 2? I'm undecided yet.
There's a chance I might win that contest...
I think it's heaviest wins so you'll sweet FA chance of winning
Is any one taking a trowel for burying their number 2? I'm undecided yet.
Why would you want to bury your riding partner, this event is getting weird 8)
B&Q do nice small plastic trowels, don't weigh much.
You should bury your poo - responsible riding demands it.
I once had to poo under a medium sized stone in the peak district. In the wide open, with no cover at all. It was not pleasant, I had to replace the stone and squish my turd into the ground.
I have that book, I'm not pooing in a can and carrying it out!
Is this idea any good for anyone?

Can everyone please use white loo roll too ... it breaks down much quicker than coloured stuff, ta.
DNFatal, I've yet to make myself a revelate style seat bag so I have to rely on my big Topeak saddle pouch, with another stuff sack strapped underneath it! Well spotted. Hats off to your kit collection, I'm suprised your not using one of the lighter TN tents though?
I have just done my food list, its not pretty! I'm hoping to be self sufficient so I'm running at about 1kg per day even using 200g Expedition main meals.

he's got a puffs pillow though.
What ... same as yours?
and yours. ๐ณ the wife nicked mine for her laptop. I'm online now looking for another.
I haven't got one ... I have to use a normal 'stick to your face' dry bag ๐
pillow talk now is it boys ๐
Last time i tried the normal drybag pillow it was flat in 10 minutes so i've just bought a new puffs pillow.
You not taking a map then?
I've memorised my route ๐
he's got a puffs pillow though.
Aha, but you have the large puffs pillow, whereas I have the smaller lightweight version ๐
'tis one of my luxury items, which is stretching the use of the term luxury - it may yet stay at home.
Edit: heads up for page 10
waiting....
