[#11055232]

I've just installed a brand new Funn headset to my frame and something isn't right but I can't work out what, well I think I can but I can't work out how to make it right.

The problem is that it is a brand new headset that is clicking like the bearings are broken right away. To me it seems like the silver ring is way bigger than it should but it also seems to fit?

What do you guys think? Am I doing it wrong?

That's a right chunker of a compression ring. Pretty sure they're normally much slimmer and sit further down inside the bearings. looks like it all goes together ok in your last pic though.

If things are clicking there is movement so (ironically) are you sure that the expander is properly being pressed down to take up bearing play?

Did the headset come in its entirety, its not a spare box special or anything?

I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable types will be along later in the day to give you a better diagnosis though!

PS: Looking at pics on mobile so might be wrong.... Have you used gorilla tape to protect the head tube? The serrated edges get mucky really fast unfortunately...

It is a brand new headset out of the box so supposedly the correct spacer ring for the headset.

I shall try tighter fitment, kind of thought too tight would put too much pressure on the bearings and that isn't great?

I've used this stuff for frame protection - Biltema car protective film - seems to be better than the bike specific stuff I tried and costs a fraction of the price.
