Purchased the TT HD Topo maps for my Edge 840.

The detail seems poor, navigation is hard to follow, they don't appear to be Topo and everywhere is surrounded by water. Well, everything is blue and around my house it actually states 'water'. I've seen this mentioned by someone else on a Facebook thread. The creator replied, but it hasn't really gone anywhere.Â

First time using and it may be that there are some settings I need to alter, but - any tips?

First - congrats for managing to navigate their god-awful website to actually pay for and download the map that you wanted. Having seen the end product itself, I think it's one of those marmite things, folks that love talky's maps really love them, I found them "OK" but not so vastly better than Garmin's own that I was an instant convert. Like you, I was using a smaller head unit, perhaps they're better on the 1000 series?Â
