As I've mentioned a few times, I'm doing the Badger Divide in about a month, over 3 days.

I've been riding 5 or 6 days a week since lockdown started 2ish hrs at a time, with 3-6 hrs at the weekend. I feel like I'm in decent shape.

Having just done the Jennride, my legs were fine, back a bit sore but not too bad. Hurrah. The bit that wasn't happy was the old Biffin's Bridge. I've got good shorts (Rapha), minty arselard, and I'm comfortable on my saddle (run SI SLRs across all my bikes and can do 150 miles on the road with no great traumas). No pressure points or numbness, just raw from the constant jostling. Starting Sunday morning wasn't actually too bad, but I was definitely uncomfortable by the time I got back to camp.

I suspect it didn't help that hygiene for the overnight on Saturday was a swish round with a wet wipe then back on with the same crusty shorts on Sunday. The Badger I'm B&Bing and will be taking a spare pair of shorts so I can wash them overnight.

So - any tips I don't know for armouring one's arse for a heavy duty few days? I seem to recall reading that Beryl Burton bathed her bits in surgical spirit to toughen them up! Or is it more just about conditioning and trying to get some more big days in?

Thanks!

SLR probably part of the problem.

Same saddle between MTB's and road bikes may not be appropriate for you. Sure I read somewhere that the more upright the bike, the wider the saddle gets. Or maybe try tipping it back a couple of degrees.

in a thread about barse pain, the "Badger Divide" seems like a painful experience!

The assumption that a saddle that is comfortable remains comfortable is a dangerous one.

This holds true for the shorts too and even the minty arselard.

Extend the days and things change.

I'd agree with your assessment of wearing the shorts again, salt crystallising into a lovely micro abrasive.

Witch hazel is an astringent and I found it good when coming back from illness.

SLR probably part of the problem.

Brings back memories of casing a tiny jump without a dropper and the saddle knocking on the door of boffins bridge. That saddles was pure evil. Even without the aforementioned casing it was evil.

I like SLRs I have them on three bikes both road and xc.

But for multi day touring I have a b17 on road bike and a c17 cambium on MTB

Just more pleasent day on day

I can’t imagine submerging my Crown Jewels and undercarriage in surgical spirit thank you. Keeping things clean dry and as far as possibly not sweaty would be my first choice. Have you thought about a suspension seat post to reduce jangling?

Don't put shit like "minty arse lard" on your skin. damages skin flora, alters ph and blocks pores
