The Tacx Training plans all start with a 5 week building phase which on first glance seems to be mainly tempo riding. The last 4 month winter coaching plan I followed mixed it up from day one. Eg, Tempo, Threshold and VO2 max workouts.

Just wondering whether if you have been cycling consistently all year should you still move to a Tempo / Endurance block prior to then starting again to bring in the Threshold and VO2 max workouts in January?

Keen to hear what approach others follow.

Personally I'd be tempted to start with a mostly sweetspot 'base' period just to adapt to the turbo again, relearn my zones etc.

Turbo puts different stresses on the body and in the past if I've jumped straight in to harder workouts I've just developed niggling over use injuries etc.

I hadn't considered that, but as you cannot move the bike around I see what you are saying. I think I am going to have a 4 week break this year now and spend that time getting back into a decent strength & conditioning routine.
