[Closed] Tacx Antares drive side slipping

Hi All,

I bought a used Tacx Antares set of rollers a while back and they were fine initially but after a handful of goes I had mega issues with the drive side and in fact both sides slipping.....i.e the fit of the plastic clips that are supposed to clamp it open are not strong enough to deal with the pull of the drive belt. Anyway it had only been used twice from new and you could tell that as it was mint. So I searched around on the net for a solution as it appears its an issue that others have found as well. There were a couple of ideas, mainly putting duct tape on the arms to pad out the distance between the arm and the clip. This kind of worked but meant that putting it back down to store it was a real pain as the clips had dug into the tape and it didnt want to budge.

Not sure how I came up with it but if you get some course sand paper and tear it into little strips and feed it into the clip so it goes in between the clip and the part it clamps it holds perfectly. Make sure that the course side is facing the slider and not the clip. I have used this quite a few times now and it works great, you can also still release the clips very easily and close the unit down.

Hope that helps anyone finding this as it will save you mucking around with duct tape stuck in your unit at least and I didnt like the idea of the unit slowly contracting whilst I am riding on top of it so it wasnt an issue I could just ignore! If anyone wants some pics to clarify let me know.

Glad I found the issue really as I had them up for sale after one go as I was wobblier than a jelly on them to start with and was going to give up, would have hated for someone else to have found the issue afterwards.

read the last paragraph! They felt truely leathal when I first tried them so I put them up for sale, literally within 20 mins of getting off the bike, which was as long as it took me to take a photo and upload it. But once trying it against a door frame and with a lot of practice it got a lot easier. Had loads of people asking about them but decided to keep them. Was just getting used to them when I noticed the slipping issue. If you look round on forums like I did when I found the issue you will see that most people have found the same thing, fine for a while then starts to happen. The tollorence between the clips and the slider must be very fine but not tight enough.

Mine slip as well, so thanks for the tip.

Wait until your bearings become too noisy to use.

They are great when they work but it seems they're just badly designed.

Yeah i did read about the noisy bearings when I was searching on the other issue, apparently the way to solve that is to refit the bearings with loctite as it's the bearings in the housing rather than the bearings themselves.

Like you said they are great but it seems that a few bits are flawed and need work which is ok I guess but for the price they are you would think these things would be thought of.
