On both my Lyriks and my 36 - when I get on quite long, fast rough downhills (no real jumps - wheels on the ground) I find that after a few mins of buttery smoothness both forks suddenly seem to stiffen up and I lose a lot of grip and control

Is there anything basic / common to both forks that will prevent this? Is it that I need more air or is it a damping issue?

Could it be rebound damping set too slow and what you're losing is travel & fork sensitivity?
At least worth discounting.

Ride, adjust, repeat
And repeat and repeat...
Rebound certainly a suspect.

Need to know where to start. Rebound sounds good

as above, rebound sounds slow, leading to the fork/shock packing down

I had the same problem recently. As the others have said, it was the rebound setting. It was too slow.

Count the clicks to where your current setting is. And then increase rebound speed to halfway between current setting and fully fast. Try that and see if it improves. Then adjust from there, depending on the results. One of my forks is set to full fast. The other is set to 3/4.
