I'm just debating these as a spare set of wheels for the lad. Obviously they're on the basic side of things, but well, basic is OK for spares/tyre-testing. The only thing is they're missing a pawl. I can buy a freehub from Superstar for £40, but seems excessive.. they don't do the pawls as spare.
Ideally if someone had an XD drive hub i'd throw some cash at them, but if not a pawl would be great too.....

Thoughts?

I would give less than 1/6th of a **** if 1 of 6 pawls was missing from a £75 wheelset.

Before superstar started making the v3/V6 hubs they bought them all in from a large supplier (s). I think some were novatec but there were a few different suppliers depending on the hubs.

E.g switch hubs were novatec I believe

With a quick google I think the Electro is novatec too but a posher / louder one then Switch. Might be worth a bit more of a dig around and see if you can get cheap pawls / springs on eBay

electro hubs have a habit of dropping their freehubs and sending the pawls in all directions when you take the wheel off. fine when you are in the garage , not so fine when you are on a trail.

Lol I see.

That wouldn't be ideal. Maybe not the best wheelset then.

There is a reason that hub is missing pawls. The electro freehub was always a loose fit and would easily fall off if the wheel wasn't on a bike. I used to keep a cord handy tie the cassette on when the wheel was off the bike. No problems apart from that.

It would spend 99% of its life off the bike and lugged about in the car. It's literally only being bought in case we want a potential tyre difference in a race weekend.
E.g faster Ardent Vs slower Shorty

Get one of those fishing magnets and drag it around your local trail centre car park, see what you can find 🙂

The cheaper switch hub is the one to go for if you see it on a used wheelset.
