As above, I have a gillet but am looking for the next level of jacket. I have full on rain jackets but I run hot so at this time of year really can't use a full on jacket. Can anyone recommend something like a race cape?

I like my montane velos. While it's light and breathable its a little bit fragile if you crash a lot or ride through trees/bushes. It's water resitant but wind proof so keeps the worst off and keeps you warm.

Mainly use mine for road rides (see fragile comment) and for racing.

Paramo windproof smock/zipped jacket is also worth a look. Bit more robust than the velo and if you wash them in tx-direct will stand a good shower. They do seem to come up big though, wear a small when walking the dog but a medium for the arm length when on the bike. Got mine for about £27 in a go outdoors sale last year. Normally retail around £50 for the smock, £60 for the jacket.

I got 1 from Aldi, rolls up to slightly smaller than a fist. Good for the £6 I bought it for.

I find the fit of most windproofs really crap, including the Montane. I don't think I have a particularly 'odd' shape for a cyclist either, either tight under the armpits or baggy in weird places.

Typically, after trying on loads, the best fit by a country mile was the lightweight Gore windproof, but it costs more than my waterproof 🙁

Edit: Sorry, still in TdF mode, those comments only apply to being stretched out on the road bike.

Paramo windproof smock/zipped jacket is also worth a look.

Is this the Fuera smock?

How does it compare to a Montane featherlight?

Also, whats the best thing to wash a Featherlight with?

+1 for the Paramo Fuera smock. Light, breathable, has survived a load of off's

The fuera is available in either a full length zipp or half length smock. I have the full length zipp because I find putting on a smock over a helmet abit of a hassle. Doesn't pack down as small as a velo but like Captainmanwearing said above is much more robust. Also I wasn't very clear above about the sizing. I'm 5:11 and 85kg's so a small should be tiny on me but for walking the dog it fits quite well. What I'm trying to say is try before you buy.

I think I'll go for the half zip version, according to Paramo size guide I should be a large. I may order a medium as well to compare though.

Anything with long sleeves and a slim cut for road riding without flapping?

Tried the Montanes on but the sizing is Fat Bloke. I was M in the chest and XXL in the arm.

I have the Aldi one and it's just a little too light weight. I'll have a look at Paramo and Montane sites.

Yeah. The £100 Gore one (Ozone? O2? something like that). Even De Marchi/Castelli seem to be a rubbish fit in this respect, probably sized for skinny wee continentals or something. Didn't try any offering from Endura right enough, and I always seem to get on with their sizings.

Interesting in some hillwalking windproofs (Haagloff etc.) but they're definitely not suited to the road bike position.
