Previously enjoyed Les Gets and Morzine (xc). Looking for something similar for two weeks but with better weather! Nice scenery and moderate xc for two old dodgers! Any ideas gratefully received

Spain is nice. Sierra Nevada area. Bit rockier than Morzine and a lot less lifts but it should be sunnier and most of the guiding companies get you a bit of height in the van. Luchon in the Pyrenees is nice too, should be a bit better weather than PDS but not guaranteed. Not nearly as big as PDS but lots of good riding. Might need to travel a bit to fill two weeks without over doing one area

EDIT: The other option is to keep going back to Morzine. That's what we usually do 🙂

Of the places I've been to (Verbier with Bike Verbier, Molini (Italy) with Riviera Bike, Morzine/Les Gets/Chamonix (Self Guided) and Spain with (now closed) Tora Loco) I'd suggest Southern Spain (Malaga, Granada (Sierra Nevada) area) as being the most suited to XC.

What could work could be a week in Sierra Nevada and then another week based in Marbella so you can do some top chilling on the beach after your rides

You could buy the Bikefax book to do some research about routes and the terrain there, although obviously the book only has some routes and not necessarily the very best that is available.

Here is a little sample of routes from the book:

Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fantastic après-bike on the coast at night.
Moderate or extreme, your choice. Old farts a speciality. 😆

Could I ask about Morzine please. Where to fly to? What is best way to get bikes from airport? Or is it easier to hire (where from in Morzine) What are the accommodation options like? Any advice would be gratefully received.

What do you mean "old farts" Alan?

+1 for Sierra! Just got back from a week of excellent biking with Alan and co. Made good use of the après-bike facilities too!

Anywhere you can recomend in or around Luchon and in Sierra Nevada also hotelwise

Luchon has quite a few nice hotels in town, its a spa town so quite a popular tourist resort. We usually stay in the arome vanille campsite which has cabins available. They're pretty basic more like a large caravan without wheels but more space than a hotel room and fairly cheap. Its easy to DIY a trip as there are lots of well marked routes and good maps and a 1200m bubble lift. A week or so would be enough even you mix it up a bit and do some walking and rafting so you might need a second venue, maybe Andorra or one of the other ski resorts.

For Sierra Nevada you probably need to go with a tour company. I've not been out there for a few years so better advice above.

Probably better of starting a new thread or using the search as this comes up quite a bit. Usually fly to Geneva, transfers available but often expensive, lots of hire options in town but quite expensive, driving form the UK is a good option if you have a couple of drivers available.

You could do worse than get in touch with Kate or Ian at A Quick Release. They are based in Luchon which is a totally fab place. Just done a skills course with them and they are very nice people.

Have you considered something a little different?
How about a spot of XC in Tenerife
Still pretty warm in July / August, but generally bearable once you get up from the coast onto the mountain.
Some beautiful XC trails all over the island for something nice and varied.
Codgers of young and old varieties catered for 😀
