Yes, I'll be in, and probably Jack.

Watts are slowly creeping back up, and weight the other way, even slower.

Given my recent performances I'll not be troubling the front this year. In a massive racing rut currently. I'm holding back on the stats for the minute as I suspect come the end of next week I'll be 2kg heavier (brothers wedding).

count me in for this slaughter fest!!

I will update FTP and weight nearer the time (hoping i have dropped back to Cat C 😛 )

A bit disappointed we arent on MTB's for all races, but i guess it spices it up a bit!

Do we need a smart trainer or would my dumb one with speed and cadence sensors be allowed?

I'm def interested again, subject to the above poster's question - I'm also still on a non-interactive trainer/speed/cadence so only zPower. I also have to move house before the end of Sept so that may intefere depending on internet/space for turbo setup.

@robbo1234biking

This would help me a lot. Absolutely dreading the onset of this Winter. This one is going to be particularly harsh.

Anyway...

Sorry if already clarified and I've missed it but what is the situation if someone has to miss a few of the races? Would that screw things up to much?

Life a bit complex here at the mo...

Thanks for info robbo.

Not going to post my weight at the moment.😟

Robbo is away on his jollies but I can answer: 1. Yes, dumb trainers are fine. It's not UCI level, it's supposed to be for fun. Just make sure it's calibrated etc. 2. Missing 1 race in the series is fine for the main competition of the handicap race as it's best 5 results from the 6 races. That would rule you out the GC though (overall time for all 6 races). Missing more than one would means you probably wouldn't be competitive for the overall but not that many people do all of them. At the end of the day, it's about racing regularly with the same people and hopefully getting a bit fitter in the process. I find a Tuesday night race breaks the week up nicely - especially during the long dark winter months.

If anyone fancies a wee tune up before this starts, my club are putting on a series starting next Tuesday, here's entry links for the first couple of races, but I won't post the next 2 as don't want to steal anyone away from the STW one!

31st August, Round 1, ITT, Bologna Out & back (16.1km) https://www.zwift.com/events/view/2261646

7th September, Round 2, Gravel, Makuri Spirit Forest, 2 laps (21.5km) https://www.zwift.com/events/view/2261636

I might join some of these races just to pootle round at the back heckling you all, seeing as I'm in no fit state to race. 😁😎

@robbo1234biking
Great to see the return of the series - although unfortunately I'll miss the first two due to a late holiday.

I'm going to try and do this. Right now I don't have anything that will get in the way. But there's still time for someone to **** it up for me! I'm due an FTP test so it's good motivation to see how badly my inconsistent riding has effected things.

That sounds a great idea being as I'm never in a fit state to race and often have a little break a few mins in.

[S] So I made the mistake of doing the ramp test lite. My ftp is now 191 which I'm guessing is max for that test. Should I have RTFM? [/S]

[S] (thinking about it, I might actually manage some points if Rob believes that) [/S]

New ftp is 191 Rob

I can see the text you deleted Brian. Must be some kind of bug in the forum. The answer to your question is: "Yes".

Great to see this back and Count me in Robbo, although will be unlikely to make the first few races of the first series. Like others, also expecting some less than positive changes on the FTP/weight front. Will let you know.

Owing to my ineptitude I still need to do an ftp test for this, given the deadline is the 10th and there's no race next week...

are there any takers for some mutual suffering by way of an elastic band meetup/ftp test next Tuesday evening?

It does occur to me done as a ramp test it'll effectively be some sort of Zwift deathmatch. Possibly with actual death.

Ah poop, it's the village hall agm on Tuesday. I really should check my calendar for these things before I suggest them.

👍 funnily enough the 2 closest (good ones!) here are closed on Mondays too, so it'll either be further afield or maybe just in someone's back garden!!

Iirc you can select a workout (eg ramp test) before you start a group ride then do the workout in the ride - I'll check with robbo tomorrow as he's done a few group workouts in the past then drop you a line to explain (or I'll post up here if there's more than two of us)

80kg and 322W FTP. Weight is a shock (in the wrong way) but FTP was better than I expected.

97 kg
296 FTP

Not ideal and I only managed 7 miles the other day before my left knee cried 'enough'.

I'm in but might miss a few.

Cheers all for the posts and messages. Been a mental week at work but will catch up on Sunday hopefully. Just waiting on the race links from Zwift and then will distribute them and declare the route choices.

I'm tempted. Will have to do a ramp test to find my FTP. Not looking forward to that

Ramp test says 319W. Weight has gone up a bit to 79kg ☹️. Neither number makes me happy so some changes are needed!

Robbo will put all the numbers in the spreadsheet once he's picked his way back up the hill. 😂

How about a race up the Alpe? The only race I've ever won. I assume because most people swerve it.

Does everyone race together or are we separated into categories? My w/kg puts me into a stupid high category when in reality I'm really not very good and actually just a skinny weakling!!

We all race together, but then get our points based on our times + handicaps, which Robbo tells us before each race.

Handicap is based on W and W/kg depending on the course, according to Robbo’s magic formula.

So someone with a low W/kg can still come out with most points from a race if they do well vs their handicap.

There is also an individual GC competition so fastest cumulative time over the stages and rewards consistency.

There is also a green points jersey where I will award points (the location of how points are determined is set before the stage) for various features (climbs, sprints, fastest lap for critt city etc).

Idea is to make it so everyone has something to strive for!

Failing that there is also the lanterne rouge! 😀
