I have stripped the thread from one of the brake mounts on my fork and want to buy a a helicoil kit to re-thread it. There are various size options available but I don't know the size of the standard bolt that holds caliper on in terms of an M size etc. Can anyone help ? Helicoil kit options state an M size for bolt then size in mms i.e M6, 1.0mm. I am assuming the latter is the actual thread spacing and the M relates to the diameter of the bolt?
Post mount forks are M6 x1mm, I've done a couple of pairs, works well enough.
M6 means it's 6mm diameter & the 1mm is the pitch of the thread.
I bought my kit off ebay, just a cheapo one & works fine.
This might help:

I thought you had to drill out to 10mm to install a 6mm helicoil? If I'm right that's probably to large for the mount to take.
not at all- you drill out to just over 6 mm to insert an m6 helicoil IIRC
Its only a tiny amount of metal you remove
nice one - many thanks lads. M6 x 1mm kit orderd for £17 off Amazon. Cheers
