[Closed] Strava Live Segments - are they working for you?

I appear to have lost all my Live Segments alerts on my Garmin over the last 3 months. I'm not expecting to see them whilst doing a Workout, but the times I've just been riding and tracking, no Segment alerts have appeared.

Was out earlier this week with another rider and their GPS was pinging away happily showing segments. The segments are the same on both accounts (I know as I set them both up), so I'm wondering if there is something else wrong.

Strava doesn't seem to mention the lack of Live Segment alerts if the segment is a downhill - has that now been removed? A few wee descents were pinging on the other device.

Just checking to see if it is everyone or just me (I'm trying to decide how bothered I need to be!), thanks.

Yes Strava live segments work for me on my Garmin. The downhill segments were disabled by Strava a while ago as a safety measure.

generally yes, but the other day my Garmin said I had a KOM by a second but Strava added two seconds to the Garmin time when the ride was uploaded

Hve you checked the settings on your Garmin? You may have accidentally disabled them.

Working on my Edge and Fenix.

How do you get the downhill segments to work on an Edge, because mine doesn't accept them anymore?

Yeah, I'm a paid-up subscriber. I knew the downhill sections had been disabled, but they appear to work on the other device - both Garmin - a 520 (works) and a Fenix 6 (doesn't work).

I'm not expecting them to show if I'm doing a workout, but they don't show when I'm just tracking. So, 2 people riding the same trail (singletrack that goes down, it isn't a downhill trail as such) and have both starred the Strava Segment (and are using Strava Segments on their devices), but I don't get any alerts but the other riders does.

I also didn't get alerts on my previous watch either...so just asking to see if others get Strava Segment alerts on their devices or if it is random.

Ta.

They are working for me.

Does anyone know how to change the preference on a Forerunner watch so I see a comparison to my own PB rather than a random selection of KOM, own PB or contacts PB?

Ok, and you have some segments that are definitely downhill in nature i.e. actually drop in height from the start point? I can't remember the percentage figure that Strava decides if it is a downhill section though...

Anything that begins with a '-' sign, so perfectly flat = OK, -0.05% = not OK. You haven't been able to set goal on such segments for a while now, road or off-road. There was a court case in the States where a rider chasing a downhill KOM either killed someone or was killed so in a CYA move they shut things down in that area.

Yeah, from what I recall, the segment crossed a main road and the rider had been trying to beat their time for quite some time and this time got taken out by a car as he was going for it.

From the bits I read, it seems the family then blamed Strava for the rider's actions, so Strava removed the functionality. Just a bit annoying and more so now that it seems to work on another device.
