OK, so can someone tell me what the appeal of this is.

Cycling in snow, dark, icy, slithery, cold conditions on an 8 mile lap (or whatever it is) for 24 hours?

Plus driving about 600 miles to get there.

A part of me wants to do it, but it's a very small part, and in those conditions, likely to get smaller...

After saying "never again" the first time, and then saying "never again" the second time, that's me entered our team for a third time. It's a strangely addictive event.

Noticed you were in Kenny, Davy also in as solo and Martin / Pete in pairs but no Andy yet.

Pairs aren't full yet Dave, so I guess he's still got plenty time. I'll maybe phone and remind him though. He might be hungover or something!

I have to say I am effed off at being on the solo waiting list when I applied at 10am. What's all this about getting an entry carried over to the next year then? That doesn't get mentioned on the website. Someone reassure me this is not just really a closed list for chums of the organisers. Re the appeal - it's appealing 'cos it looks hard and is what my bike and kit were built for. It will probably make me cry. Good. I'm going to be grumpy all day now. Boo.

i can assure you it's not a closed list for chums even if these past few years i've felt something like the comedy entry.

i did have all my off duty requested to accommodate it this year but seeing as it's a week earlier than normal i can't go. which is a shame but all the same when it comes around and i'm tucked up in my warm bed i won't be altogether distraught

Fair enough - I'd probably be pooing myself if/when I get in. Given the over-subscription of this and the Cairngorms Loop I reckon there's a bigger market out there for longer rides. If only I could be arsed to organise something.

see if you can't get a spot on a team. it's worthwhile as a taster and saves you from the full psychological horror of the solo

From previous years happenings it appears that what usually happens is about 60-70 would be soloists hit the button bang on 10.00am.

Who would have thought there were so many masochists in the country? ๐Ÿ™‚

We now have one solo, three pairs, one quad team and four support crew going up......can't believe one club can have some many gluttons for punishment!

Just noticed this. I got hit by a car a week before the race last time, so the organisers very kindly allowed me to carry over my entry to this year as I spent the following few weeks nursing a broken body.
Hope that clears things up for you.
