All being well I should be ordering a new set of wheels in the morning, I've pretty much decided that I'm going for Stans Flow rims on Pro2's, but I have a doubt at the back of my mind that other than supporting my 16 stone my bikes don't suffer a particularly heavy use, so perhaps I should save the 200g and go for the 355's? I usually run 2.4" Mountain Kings so maybe the 28mm width of the Flows is better suited.

Any opinions? Cheers, Dave

I have just fitted an olympic to the back (about 1 month ago now) and after 50 miles of offraod riding I'm suitably impressed. No puncturees (obviously) great grip especially over rocky trails, and it feels faster rolling. I am using a 2.4 UST Mountain King with Stans sealant. ๐Ÿ™‚

In addition to this I'm about 16 and 1/2 stone (6'3") and ride trails in Mid Wales mostly.. 8)

On a tyre that wide, I'd def. go for the Flow. No offence, but if you weight that much (I'm not far off) is 200 grms really worth it?

I went with the Flow and I'm very happy with them.

I kind of agree with Onzadog that I should get the stronger/wider/heavier rims and just ease off on the pies.

But will be 200g be a noticeable difference as it's rotating mass? martyntr's comments reassure me about the lighter rims...

Spending money is getting harder...

200gram difference in rotating weight will be like night and day. But given your size I'd still go for the heavier ones! ๐Ÿ™‚

Why not go for the middle ground and get Arch's? I run them on the 4x bike with no issues at all.

*edit

Ah your probably looking at HH Wheels in which case they only offer 355/flow. Sorry ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was running 2.4 mtn kings on 17mm 717's.... and now I'm using them on the Olympics which are 23mm wide. Light weight wheels have all served me well as a big bloke. You just need to "ride light."

Heavy wheels make heavier peoples lives a misery. The main part of the strength of the wheel is in the build quality and tension. The wider rims will serve you well.

I'll report back in 3 years, which is how long my 717 rear rim lasted. The only reason I changed it was because of a rather large dink which meant that I couldn't "ghetto tubeless" it when I came to convert. I therefore splashed out on a new rim and build...

Thanks for the comments, 355's ordered and I will try giving the pies a miss for a while perhaps....

V10 - you're right, Arch's would be good, but with the HH's being less than the cost of the rims and hubs seperately it's hard to turn down.
