Cant make my mind up what to get.
would like bash guard.
recomenedations pls?

Er.... Whichever one you like, add bashring (if you're into fashion). Not really sure what else is different to a normal geared setup. SLX is the best value by far.

for ss ? any old cranks on the spares heap will do old stx from the ark on mine at the moment with the 44 tooth ring they came with

Any crank with just the middle ring on if you're not bothered about the aesthetics.

.....But if looks are important - the nicest looking SS cranks imho are Middleburns with one of these rings on:

Or if you can get hold of one of the older XTR M960 cranks do the 'Jeff Jones' modification on it:

Old school XT square taper for me. One day I might even polish them up, but that'd involve not riding it instead.
