I'd say I'm lucky enough to have had a go, albeit briefly, on new 2015 model road bikes fitted with both Shimano's R785 Disc Brakes, and also one fitted with SRAM Rival Hydraulic discs. Both were hugely impressive! I've also done a few miles now on a bike fitted with TRP's HY-RD disc brakes, which are also mightily impressive if slightly heavy.

Anyone had a go on a bike with the SRAM Hydraulic Rim brakes fitted? Impressed? Worth it over normal rim brakes? Any negatives (new hood shape aside which I actually quite like)?

Had a test ride with some SRAM Red hydraulic rim brakes. Very impressive stopping and would rather have them than discs. However I wasn't keen on the hood shape, although to be fair I'm not keen on the normal SRAM hood shape. Biggest issue might be servicing them, although that is purely speculative. It would be great if Shimano and Campag followed suit.

Anyone else?

To contrast what philby said, I quite like the hood shape, it's a bit ungainly (just like some would say anything but cable operated rim brakes are on a road bike!) but it gives you a very positive handhold. I also like the conventional SRAM hood shape too, and the double tap shifting.

Seems to me that for the intermediate term, and for getting powerful brakes and an 11spd groupset on an existing frame, that Hydraulic rim brakes are the way to go...
