My question is not whether I can mix sram/Shimano but if I can go to a 52t s ram cassette as the deore, mech is only rated to a 51t

Should be fine, the difference in diameter is minimal

Due to a mid-ride snapped x01 mech the other weekend, one of our riding group had to swap out on trail and the only spare between us was a deore 12spd mech.

He reckons it performed better on his 10-52 x01 cassette than the sram.

I suspect his x01 was on the way out for some time; that and the prospect of the deore vs long walk home.

Worked fine though.

Yeah I’ve had a deore 12 speed mech and a sram 10-52t combo for over a year, no issues dealing with the extra 1 tooth.

@sync - was someone riding with a spare rear mech in their bag?

I thought I carried a lot of tools & spares

yup, chucked a deore on instead of my gx in a full gx setup (only 50t mind you) and works flawlessly, much easier to set the tension without having to use that stupid piece of plastic too
