I think it was more the fact that everyman and his dog was posting referral links, either overtly or on the sly, that attracted the ire of the mods.
IIRC, the last one wasn't "covert", it had both links listed - the referral code and the ordinary one.
I wondered if some new "rule" had been implemented.

Indeed! Some of us having been getting a few bargains - and have publicised them on here. You'll find a few threads if you do a search.
A couple of the downsides are the fact that the stock can be very limited and it can take a while to arrive.
