I need a new pair of SPD shoes and am wondering what peoples experiences are with the Trainer type of shoes now available, like the 661 Filter, Five Ten's or Shimano MP66?

I've had a pair of 661 Filters for about 5 years now. they're mostly just used for trips to the shops and stuff now but they've proven pretty hardy and have a stiffish sole which is good for pedalling.

5Ten are bringing out some SPD shoes soon (now?) which might be worth a look if you do a bit of hiking on rocky/rooty stuff when out riding.

5Ten have some SPD shoes out which look quite good. The reason I want trainers is more cosmetic than practicality!

MP66 are pretty good for the price. Nice if you use platform pedals but I prefer my M166's for longer rides.
