My soldering iron has stopped working as the end of the tip will not heat up or take solder and i can't get a replacement tip. can anyone recommend a good soldering iron?
weller,
or pace if you have a bit of cash
Depends what you want to spend, what you're using it for and how much you use it
The Antex ones from Maplin are good enough for most
Cheap ones are generally rubbish. I'm lucky to have an aged Weller with an out-board PSU and is thermostatically controlled that simply works. Probably would have been expensive new.
i'll have a look at the weller ones as the cheap one that i have that is broken was one from Maplins
50w solder station from marlin is pretty good. Currently only 19.99
Antex work OK for me and tips are readily available. I paid extra for the silicon rubber cable as I think the cheaper ones with the standard cable just gets in the way of whatever you are trying to do, in my opinion!
I use a lighter gas powered soldering iron. Absolutely superb, controllable heat, six different tips and no cord to get in the way.
Antex for me too ...
